The New Global Fascism

01.04.2003 01:42

Two British soldiers who feel this war is not right, it's criminal and illegal under international law. So why is it right for Bush and Blair to disobey the UN and the international law? Now these honourable soldiers with a humane consciense are going to be sent to trial for being traitors of war, when the war is immoral and illegal in the first place. This is the new fascist world order lead by Bush and followed by Blair who are as corrupted as Saddam Hussain.

come on !

Get a grip ! There is no "new fascist world order", there
is nothing new about any of this. Soldiers have fought
immoral wars as far as history can remember, and there has
always been soldiers who were tried (and usually executed)
for refusing to obey orders.

And there has always been people like you who thought that
"now, things are different", and were then disheartned when
realising that this isn't the case.

But it is important to realise that "now, things aren't
different", that this is a continuity, and that we have
a history to learn from.

Comment on patriotism from your Parliament?

04.04.2003 18:10

I was listening to National Public Radio here in the US the other day and heard about these two British soldiers who refuse to fight (and more power to them!). What I can't recall exactly was a quote from the remainder of the news story, but it had to do with a supportive comment from a politician who I believe was a member of your British Parliament. I was under the impression it was quite a controversial statement he made about patriotism, and that it must have been in your news. Yet my news searches are turning up nothing.

Can anyone point me to a story about that comment? It was something like, "The kind of patriotism that requires a person never to question his government is not a kind of patriotism to which I can subscribe." Along those lines... Thanks much.
