Tim | 03.04.2003 18:53

New peace web site lets people go on public record as opposing the war. They can also post a photo.

At Faces for Peace, people are posting their names, photos, and statements on the war. Part of the goal is to show the faces of real people -- lots of real people from all walks of life -- who oppose the war. The site also helps put individual faces on this vast movement.

There are already participants from six countries and the rally is growing.

Please visit the online rally!

Let the public pressure rise, let the inner rage against the war machine cry out, let the resistance to the empire begin and when it really begins and you start direct action cover up.

I visited the above site and read this!

------------------------------------
tough question

Recently someone posted to the site a very graphic image of a child's body torn apart by a bomb blast. We were conflicted over whether or not to take down the photograph.

On the one hand, it was a powerful gut-wrenching picture that seemed one of the most persuasive arguments against war we had ever seen: in that sense it fit with the rest of the site. On the other hand, it may have had a traumatic and painful effect on visitors; we worried this might discourage people from coming to the site and protesting.

In the end we hesitantly took it down. However, we saved the picture on disk and we want to know what you think about the issue. If you have an opinion, please share it at

----------------------------

I wish to share my opinion here..sorry.

Oooh! sweet little poncey cuties.
Are you american(as in US). Please tell me that the other five countries are the England, Scotland, Wales , Faroe Island and mmmm the Vatican?

I do not mean to offend you but making the point here that there is nothing new about 'white kids' making another website in the name of what is fashionable right now.

If you have a torn body of an Iraqi child that is the true present state of the seventh nation.
Do you get it?

Please look to adding on diverse nations as possible with realistic images and from my experience you will see that not all will be smiles as things stand now.

There is shit happening out there and hope you can see it and get on top of it. I cannot remember whether your website had another 'Bring Our Troops Home' crap.... even if not so please realise if you bring the murderous PIGs home they will wipe the smile off your face or go onto do worse shit to another country.

We have to stop this culture of violence instead.

Not to confuse you let me summarise my main (and only)point here....true global peace with understanding of the real cause is the solution we should all campaign for.
I am not saying websites like this are bad but please include other nations and consider highlighting the truth as it is.
If the images make you vomit then so be it -- it is the truth and it is the only way out.

My problem is not with upsetting people, but concern for the dignity of those who’ve already been degraded to the point of death.

Giving a glimpse of the slaughter without betraying those who’s corpses are on display seems the ideal, preserving a certain amount of anonymity for the person they were whilst alerting the world to the inhumanity they’ve suffered.

Disturbing images certainly do need to be shown, we need to highlight the traumatic and painful effects of barbarism committed by so-called civilised countries. This is the world we inhabit, painting it pink, sprinkling flowers, blowing bubbles, sticking your fingers in your ears whilst singing lalala might make us feel better but it will not tether the hawks.
