Madonna give up

protesta | 08.04.2003 23:51

She has decided to stop the diffusion of the violent, anti-war video for "American Life". out of respect for the troops fighting in Iraq.

We can read this statement on his website: "I have decided not to release my new video. It was filmed before the war started and I do not believe it is appropriate to air it at this time. Due to the volatile state of the world and out of sensitivity and respect to the armed forces, who I support and pray for, I do not want to risk offending anyone who might misinterpret the meaning of this video." It seems that the "catastrophic repercussions and horror of war" she wanted to describe (see  http://www.futureworldfunk.be/info030211.htm) has disapeard when it started. Shame on you Madonna.

Another turncoat!

I must admit I am shocked at this news, I honestly thought that Madonna would have the guts to release this video especially now of all times, but it seems like many others words don't turn into deeds, she's probably more interested in her record sales than standing by what used to believe in. I was a fan of hers, not any more.

It's a crap song anyway, we already have those Taty girls to keep our minds off the war and onto more delightful things! Lesbian School girls in wet shirts! Upskirts photograpy! The kiss the bodies the... promise that one day soon peodophiles on video hits will be normal, singing about srewing kids, my parents complained about a stage kiss between two hetro adults my teachers complained about Franki goes to Hollywood I raised my eyes when they broadcast twinks now this, what next?

She is not as daft as you think ...

... perhaps she figured, that without this guesture, the record would be totally buried - and now instead, not only is the song being played, but the content of the video is being discussed on prime time news in amerika - lets face it, the nearest to criticism your going to get on these properganda channels.
Perhaps I'm too soft on the old girl, but when one reads and hears how she discribes bush & junta, one can't help feeling a little respect for the high profile artist ...

War is profit

09.04.2003 08:04

I notice how many artists and musicians jumped on the anti-war bandwagon when millions were marching. Now they are jumping off, because the war is coming to an end and it's not nearly so fashionable. At least Bono knows that third world debt is an issue that won't go away and will remain a money-spinner for generations to come.

Dan: you ain't seen nothing yet

If you think the antiwar movement is weaker now after the murder and maiming of thousands of people in Iraq you better revise your projects on your side of the river. The Dixie Chicks are at the top of charts in the US even though the rightwing turned against them, and Mike Moore is 52 weeks on the bestseller list. The cultural voice of the antiwar movement is getting louder. Those school kids on the streets in March which so terrified you security types are a warning to you. The ground is moving under your feet.
All of Blair's lies will be revealed in time, and he will pay.

Misunderstanding

09.04.2003 15:08

Epimenedes: I am as against this war as you. What I don't like is the way some musicians like Madonna are capitalising on the strength of the anti-war movement for the benefit of their own record sales. No doubt there are some genuine concerns among musicians as there are within wider society, but I doubt Madonna or her ilk are committed to the struggle against imperialism.
