US did not liberate Europe: be ungrateful.

Planned demonstration at the American War Cemetery of Margraten, near Maastricht, on May 25 - against US 'liberation' of Europe in 1944-1945.

Why be surprised that the US invades Iraq, and then expects the population to be grateful for their 'liberation'? After all, they invaded Europe, and the population there continues to regard them as 'liberators'. If Europeans are still childishly grateful to the US after 60 years, then why criticise Iraqi's for cheering their conquerors? If you refuse to be 'ungrateful' to the US, why expect others to do so?

The Netherlands-American memorial ceremony at Margraten, each year in late May, is a gesture of gratitude to the United States for the 'liberation' of Europe. Soldiers buried at Margraten fought in Belgium, the Netherlands and the Rhineland. Last year the US commander in Europe, General Ralston, attended the ceremony. This is the first ever counter-demonstration, and it may be banned.

The demonstration on May 25 is against the US invasion of Europe in 1944-1945, against the presence of US troops in Europe, and to demand the withdrawal of those troops. It is also directed against the American soldiers buried at Margraten: they fought as conquerors, to subject Europe to American values and American interests. They deserve no honour, and certainly no gratitude. They should be reburied in the US.

The demonstration is against the Europe of the Nation States - supported by the US - and for the formation of a continental state. It is against nationalism and liberalism, and against Atlanticism - which combines both these ideologies with uncritical admiration for American society. It is also directed against the slavish attitude of the national elites in western Europe, who kneel before the American flag, and unjustly honour the American dead.

The dead US fighters from the second world war do deserve to be respected .They were working class men who belived that they went there to help get rid of the evil that was nazism they new nothing of conquering nations and imposing there morals ,they cant be blamed for the right wing nutters running the US today.
Clearly the US goverment and leaders went there in there own intrests as some would just as easily joined sides with the nazis like the presidents grandpa prescott bush who funded the nazis up untill 1942.
Its right to protest against the US state machine but not against working men who died at a different time during different conditions

if the americans liberated europe... why did they not rid spain of franco? were not we europeans? or franco was not a fucking fascist? americans did NOT liberate europe of ANYTHING. and those non british and americans of the north buried in OUR land are a waste of much needed space, if for nothing but conservation. i am 30 yo. i am spanish. my woman is french. she is of italian ascendence. my son will be born in uk. we don't need no shit about it: get the fuck out of our lives, get the fuck out of europe.

let's ee. i, for my part, didn't want to discuss l/w issues as such, or anything related to nationalism as such either. but it happens that i agree with the post opening with this, and that i have an ideal of an europe that is looser than my spanish straightjacket and kills myths. now, when i go to móstoles (madrid), where i come from and the popular uprising against napoleonic troops started (2nd of May 1802) -being then no more than a 500 people village- and as i said, when i go there today with my FRENCH partner and see conmemorated this... is it realistic? and what the english liberators did then (when the LEFT and the RIGHT -before even hegel had the time to device it)- expelled the french of the iberian penisnsula?

it would be healthy for the uk not to be too close to us, and sort out the shit in their own shores, b4 than ours.

Notice the random characters in the poster's name. These are
very similair to the name of the poster here. No organisers are named, and if anything is real about this planned protest, it's not organized by the Dutch peace coaltion.

The original article is an anti-American tirade, which is unrealistic by itself. The demo that is announced is an 'anti-America' demo. The only people I know of who use the term 'anti-amaerican' is not the anti-war movement, but the pro-war side.

Even in Holland some on Indymedia bought this crap, mostly right wing figures, who were licking their fingers on an article like this posted on indymedia. I think this story originates from this same group. Maybe the pro-war demo organizers still feel bad about the around 20 people that showed up at their pro-war demo in The Hague.

Hoax or not, on the net anything enough readers decide to believe becomes real. The fact that its a serious question whether this announcment is a hoax or not teaches something about our time.
