i would not propose to delete the path
as having the path in admin is a nice bit of evidence in case people are accusing us of random censorship again. i propose we treat jean like we treat Bob Deaf Israel which means hide irrelevant what it is.

any objections to this? then please mail to the features list on
 imc-uk-features@lists.indymedia.org

I have just checked the IMC features archive to find my e-mail address present on it. Would it be possible to remove my address from the archived postings, since I have posted a few articles which can be describe as 'controversial' and if you look at my latest posting (38497) you will find I haven't made many friends and I would....

Text:
On Tuesday 23rd July around 50 billboards in Bristol were subvertised. In
some cases text was added to the adverts, such as " Work, Consume, Die" and
"Advertisers will be prosecuted" or other text related to the advert
itself. In other cases the ads were just painted over so they lost their
message.

Some reports from the newswire. As you know I can't
access admin page so what i'm doing is creating work
for others (sorry)

Can sb. add the following link in the page 'war in
Palestine':
 http://uk.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=37254&group=webcast

possible title: bomb blast in university.

However I think we should hide the first comment...

Can I suggest to edit the title of this one:

 http://uk.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=37271&group=webcast

HUNDREDS TO OCCUPY SELFRIDGES instead of
HUNDREDS OCCUPY SELFRIDGES
it may be misleading for users...

Do we like games in the newswire? Here is one
 http://uk.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=37288&group=webcast

I personally don't think it should be there but this
is only a proposal to debate - I propose to hide it.

I think we should run this story:
 http://uk.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=37291&group=webcast
I'll try to have something ready tomorrow or saturday.

Here is another link for the noborder article:
 http://uk.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=37308&group=webcast

possible name for link: publixtheatrecaravan
performance

And finally:

Here the only thing it says is, 'no story to tell'.
Technical problems? Any way, can some one hide it ?

 http://uk.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=37249&group=webcast

that's why we got all these nasty comments:
 http://uk.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=37255&group=webcast
Thanks andi for solving it with the people in the
newswire. you have effectively shut them up (for now).

Hope this what i'm emailing is good to work on...

Message-ID:

hi all,

have compiled a few stats - it's not your classical hits
or page impression stat as we are not logging ip addresses
anymore since the fbi asked for the ip logs in april 01
[  http://www.indymedia.org:8081/fbi/ ]

with genoa there has been a system introduced called squid
in which a lot of worldwide servers serve the imc load. that
means that it's even more impossible to tell how many people
are watching as there is a number of servers worldwide which
spit out imc content as you go along. i don't know how many
servers that are but obviously there's no central point to
measure anymore. the last time we had some sort of reliable
statistics about viewing figures for imcuk was around genoa:
19/Jul/01: 22992 hits 6134 page-impressions
20/Jul/01: 30436 hits 6780 page-impressions
21/Jul/01: 6959 hits 3361 page-impressions

soooooo, funnily enough the consequence is that the only
method of getting an idea of how many people use imcuk is
by measuring the CONTRIBUTIONS rather than the passive
VIEWINGS, so we put the bias into participation.

thus here a list of CONTRIBUTED postings (stories&comments)

P.S. Someone suggested a polical forum page for the site. GOOD IDEA! This
way we can immediatly re-home all the non news from the newswire while still
hiding all the offensive stuff.

Devonport Risk Downplayed to Save Money

[written specially for uk.indymedia.org - note - there are two days of
action coming up in Devonport - one next weekend and a national one in
october]

Tony Gosling - 05Aug02

Risks to Plymouth residents from nuclear facilities at Devonport dockyard
are being deliberately downplayed for commercial reasons according to
anti-nuclear campaigners and experts. Devonport Management Ltd. (DML) are
hiding behind official secrets legislation, campaigners say, to play down
the danger the dockyard poses to the public.=20
John Large, consultant nuclear engineer to the UK and Russian governments,
told an audience at Plymouth's Guildhall on Tuesday 2nd July that accident
scenarios presented to the city council by Devonport dockyard owners and
operators DML involved small radiation discharges which were
'coincidentally' contained just within the 600 yard boundary of the
facility. Necessitating little or no evacuation preparation by the Council.

Devonport Management Limited is owned by Brown and Root which is in turn
owned by U.S. Vice-President Dick Cheyne's Haliburton. Haliburton are prime
contenders to build the Afghanistan pipeline and have their and DML's
accounts audited by the discredited Arthur Andersen company.

Plymouth city council's chief executive, Alison Stone, sent a memo to all
Plymouth city councillors requesting they stay away from Mr Large's
presentation as it was 'not an official consultation'. Though they were all
invited either the city council, MOD and DML attended John Large's
presentation.

In his presentation, Large detailed MOD accident scenario 'BR6' which
envisages a substantial release of radiation and nuclear 'meltdown'
necessitating the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people from the
city and involving medical treatment for all members of the public within
seventy miles. However the BR6 scenario was 'classified' and was not
available to city councillors, who are responsible for the city's emergency
management plan.=20

There are serious questions in Plymouth as to why the BR6 scenario has been
kept secret. Could it be because local people would be outraged if they
knew what a danger the dockyard poses to them? The city of Murmansk, in
Russia, also has a nuclear dockyard surrounded by a large population. Plans
are in place there for the evacuation of the entire city should an accident
occur. And evacuation plans around nuclear facilities in the United States
are much more comprehensive than those in the UK.=20
Plymouth's DevPubSafe Emergency Plans are due to be updated by March 2003
at the latest but look unlikely to take into account the terrorist threat
post September 11th. The principle of 'the polluter pays' applies to
nuclear accidents and there is commercial pressure for DML to convince the
council that no plans are necessary since they would be liable to pay for
the emergency provision. Safety provision for BR6 is likely to cost Mr
Cheyne's company around ten million pounds.

There has also been a refusal to take into account the dangers posed by
high-explosives at the dockyard. Cruise missiles, torpedoes and trident
nuclear missiles - with their plutonium warheads. The Navy say submarines
are stripped of all weaponry before entering Devonport but submarines are
known to make unscheduled and emergency stops in port. The fuel for the
torpedoes and Trident nuclear missiles is also highly combustible.

Large also explained that ten or more removed submarine reactors now stored
at Devonport amounted to 'a nuclear power station in the middle of a city'.
Something that, according to him, violates the first rule of nuclear
safety, 'you don't put highly radioactive materials near population
centres, let alone in the middle'.
Tony Staunton, chair of Plymouth UNISON, wound up the safety presentation
in the Guildhall and expressed dismay that councillors responsible for
dockyard safety had declined to attend. He concluded that the present
emergency plans for the yard were unrealistic and that DML appeared to be
pulling the wool over the city council's eyes to avoid the expenditure
necessary were a realistic emergency plan put in place.
Patrick van-den-Bulck, for CND, noted that the alternative base for the
nuclear fleet, Rossyth, could not be developed because the Scottish
Parliament would not allow any expansion of nuclear facilities North of the
border. Therefore Plymouth is being 'dumped on' as the cheapest and least
publicly accountable option to service Britain's fleet of nuclear
submarines. Because of overcrowding and safety issues at Devonport the
Royal Navy have been considering basing their Trident submarine fleet in
the United States.

Not only is Devonport, the home of the Royal Navy's prestigious nuclear
fleet, owned and managed by the Vice-President of a foreign power. But DML
is deliberately thwarting Plymouth councillors for commercial gain as
councillors attempt to draw up contingency plans for the hundreds of
thousands of people in Plymouth and downwind of the docks. To make matters
worse both military and civilian authorities are failing to take account of
the threat of terrorist attack.

hi, people asked for a feature so here's one!
don't have a pic so if someone want to sort one out cool.

-----------------------------------------------------

CAPS TITLE: PALESTINIAN CRISIS
Lower Case Title: Selfridges Criticised for Israeli Sales Policy

On Saturday 3rd Aug campaigners from many different groups demonstrated at
Selfridges department store in London. The protests were in response to
Selfridges decision to return to the shelves the controversial Israeli goods
produced in the occupied territories, which they had previously removed from
sale.

Some campaigners entered the store with banners, flags and flyers and were
removed by security staff. Outside people played drums, held banners,
blocked entrances, and handed out leaflets. One drummer was arrested after
police pushed people out of the road.

Subject: [Imc-uk-features] Iraq page
Message-ID:

Hi IMC people,

I'm very computer literate but unfamiliar with groups / lists etc. so apologies for not just getting involved and making this point there.. I'm trying to pick these things up fast..

I was disappointed to read the derisory remarks in the features list after some newswire posts requesting an Iraq specific section of the site (they amounted to 'the newswire wants an Iraq page / but then the newswire wants world peace', haha).

In all seriousness, Iraq is a very pressing, short-term issue for 'us' at present, and it is also a winnable campaign - at least as far as British involvement goes. Is there any chance of getting something implemented?

Even a 'features' story to raise awareness, and maybe a page with a load of links to the relevant newswire stories / external sites only would be good, and could provide a central resource for those of us wanting to organise fast - without reading 101 conspiracy theories working through the newswire!

Thanks.. if there is somewhere else I should be posting this, please let me know..

Apologies for all the html formatting in my previous post - I hope it's
switched off now (damn hotmail if it isn't).
Having thought a little more, I'd like to propose that the possible war in
Iraq gets its own 'alternative middle column' in exactly the same way as the
current "UK/World/War in Palestine" options. I don't know the tech term for
this.
Tim

hi Tim
yes it would be good to feature iraq but we are short on peeps and it being
summer less than ever ! :(
anyway we work on what comes into the news wire and if we get reports in nw
then we can make a feature (mid colum) peice with links to the reports in
the nw or other articles pics etc (preferably imc ones but not nessarely)
if your up for getting involved then join the features list (i think u have)
and follow whats happening proposed features are posted and then put up 24
hours later (well thats how one group works) so as we can spell check and
check links etc
so if you got any nice bits put em up on the newswire(keep a note of the url
for possible feature proposals later)
if u want to get involved and you need any training on indy site/navigation
and how indy uk works mail me

cheers Andrew (one of imc-uk)

hi tim

i think it would make sense to do such a page - i'd just hope that there
are enough people to maintain it - it has happened with the palestine page
and with the peace page that after initial enthusiasm the maintenance has
broken
down... as with the 'peace' page after 9-11, it's not linked now but
check it at
 http://uk.indymedia.org:8081/index.php3?resist=peacenotwar
technically it's easy to set up if people are up for it.

a start would be if someone collects postings on imcuk, other imc's and
other
relevant sites relating to iraq - maybe you are happy to start this? i'm
sure
an iraq page could get into life very soon if someone kickstarts it. most
people
donating time to the indy project have taken on already quite a bit so
it's
always great if someone comes along with fresh ideas AND concrete
follow-ups.
i don't mean to discourage the idea but i think it will help everybody if
you
could come with a list of urls from the wire, and possibly an intro
text...

cheers and thanks for engaging, andi

hi thomas,

i agree your post 38018 should not have been hidden, specially as it
adresses the very problem we have at the moment with no-news and
spam by the likes of jean... i think it helps if this is being
debated on the wire because it is a problem a lot of people are
clearly unhappy with. two of the other hidden stories (38034 and
38056) are direct reactions to jean posts (i have commented on 38034
myself). there's no further debate going on and jean's posts to
which they relate are hidden now so i think it makes sense to have
them hidden coz they comment on sth which is not in the newswire
anymore.

the beeb critique on 38046 should definitely be there, i agree...

thus i've un-hidden 38018 (your article about spam with debate) and
the beeb crit 38046

have hidden 38065 (another heinzreport) and unlinked the attachment
btw...

have taken the direct picture link from 38074 as well.

cheers andi

all,

--------------------------------------------------------------------
summary of proposal: HIDE ANYTHING WHICH LINKS TO HEINZREPORTS.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

i have posted this as a newswire story, too.

someone calling himself "jean" has started to spam the wire since a
few weeks. he tends to upload an index file that takes over the
colour of the website and directly links to his various heinzreport
sites. lately he has charged these sites with cookies which open
multiple windows and open several new ones if you try to close those
windows. before you go thru my list below just check these two
contributions from 2 august, i think they show everything about that
guy's mindset:
 http://uk.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=37446
 http://uk.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=37447

his postings are easily recognisable if you look at the MIME type
column for the type of uploaded file: if it's a text/html file it's
almost for sure him. i have put a dot in front of the file path in
the line for 'linked file' - i would not propose to delete the path
as having the path in admin is a nice bit of evidence in case people
are accusing us of random censorship again. i propose we treat jean
like we treat Bob Deaf Israel which means hide irrelevant what it is.

any objections to this? then please mail to the features list on
 imc-uk-features@lists.indymedia.org

btw - lately Deaf Booby Trap nutter's back, too:

Message-ID:

Proposed feature addition for Offline

As the No Border Campaign in Strasbourg successfully protested for=20
Freedom of Movement and Settlement for Everyone securing the release of=20=

prisoners and calling for an end to the continued oppression against=20
migrant communities in Europe =96 another equally disturbing racist and=20=

anti-immigrant picture unfolded the UK.

A historic trial challenging the internment of 11 Arabs held under the=20=

Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001 in the UK began at a Special=20=

Immigration Appeals Commission on July 17. Some were being held in what=20=

one lawyer described as concrete coffins in Belmarsh prison. The=20
detainees and their lawyers were not allowed to see secret evidence=20
providing proof of their alleged connections with terrorist group=20
Al-Qaeda that supposedly orchestrated the US terrorist attack on=20
September 11 2001. The non-open court was especially established by the=20=

Home Office for this purpose but even this star chamber was forced to=20
declare that Britain=92s attempts to intern non-British citizens was=20
unlawful on Tuesday July 30.

Civil rights groups including Amnesty, Campaign Against Criminalising=20
Communities, Statewatch, Liberty, concerned people and ordinary=20
campaigners across the UK and abroad welcomed the ruling. Lawyers have=20=

now successfully initiated a process to protect asylum seekers and=20
others involved in political dissent from the UK=92s unacceptable and=20
disproportionate anti-terrorism measures.

Britain=92s derogation from the Human Rights Act adopted in 2000 has=20
sacrificed basic rights to the altar of hegemony. One Moroccan immigrant=20=

and alleged international terrorist returned to his home country and was=20=

not even interrogated despite his apparent threat to international=20
security. It seems the Home Office is more keen to encourage internees=20=

to return home and act as examples to those seeking asylum in the UK.

Derogation from the Human Rights Act was only possible after the UK=20
declared a "public state of emergency that affected the life of the=20
whole nation". The Special Appeals Commission accepted the word of the=20=

Home Office and the security services about this alleged threat to the=20=

UK. But the British government produced no evidence to justify this=20
unprecedented move following the US attacks on September 11.

Interestingly the exaggerated number of losses suffered on 911 by the US=20=

were later downgraded from an initial 4,167 to 2,950 by US newspapers=20
New York Times and US Today. But US president George W Bush was not=20
alone =96 UK prime minister Tony Blair also claimed hundreds of Britons=20=

had died in the attacks, this figure was later revised to 100. The=20
war-ravaged people of Afghanistan have lost thousands more people in the=20=

continuing war against terrorism. Collateral damage is commonplace=20
during attempts to capture elusive suspected leader of the 911 attack=20
Osama Bin Laden and his network in the strategic-oil-based Afghanistan.=20=

A further twenty-five people were reported to have been killed and 80=20
injured on August 9, 2002.

The main casualties of September 11 are immigrants, asylum seekers,=20
anyone engaged in political dissent including those attempting to=20
overthrow despotic governments so would include Nelson Mandela. Non-US=20=

friendly governments labelled as the "axis of evil" are also targets=20
unless they have established nuclear capability. The US state continues=20=

to lose the moral and legal international imperative. It was recently=20
forced to reveal the names of thousands of detainees held after being=20
taken secretly in a challenge brought by civil rights campaigners across=20=

the Atlantic.

Democracy has been suspended while the war against terrorism allows a=20
bloodthirsty US to bay for yet more Middle Eastern blood in Iraq. But=20
the world, Iraqi civilians and the strong Iraqi Kurdish population=20
abandoned during the Gulf war may not welcome collateral damage with a=20=

CIA led Latin American style Operation Condor in the Middle East.=20
Thousands of people were killed and tortured under Chilean dictator=20
Augusto Pinochet who took power in a coup supported by both the US and=20=

UK. The now discredited and tyrannical Taleban was a creation of the US=20=

CIA and Pakistan=92s security services.

The US continues to abuse human rights and any principles seeking to=20
promote its very foundation. It has opposed a UN protocol against=20
torture and is currently holding 600 detainess, some British, in US=20
military base Guantanamo Bay where conditions openly breach the Geneva=20=

Convention. Economic interests continue to be the vanguard of US=20
politics. The US is currently attempting to block a human rights appeal=20=

in Indonesia against oil-giant Exxon Mobil Corp for human rights abuses=20=

because it could risk jeopardising co-operation on counter-terrorism=20
measures.

States using state terror is not new and dates back to the French=20
Revolution in western democracies. Like Bush who declared "Every nation=20=

must know that they are either with us or they are with the terrorists.=20=

No nation can pick and choose its terrorist friends,"=96 one founder of=20=

the French Revolution Robespierre suggested revolutionaries took the=20
path of virtue or terror and claimed only the latter would provide true=20=

democratic dispositions. In the UK, state terror is targeting the weak=20=

and minorities are being sacrificed to the new altar of democracy.

In the UK =96 all internees were held in breach of the ancient right of=20=

haebus corpus. This requires that all detainees including foreign=20
nationals must be guaranteed a fair trial where evidence can be heard=20
and tested in an open court. The UK has made inroads to erode civil=20
liberties but history points to the fact it was also one of the first=20
countries to ratify the European Court of Human Rights in 1951 after=20
World War II. Article 3 gave freedom from torture or inhumane or=20
degrading treatment or punishment and Article 5 the right to a fair=20
trial by an impartial tribunal =96 little has changed except the UK=20
contempt for human rights. Civil rights campaigners have taken the=20
mantle of Amnesty founder London lawyer Peter Benenson who valued basic=20=

rights and toasting freedom and men and women of conscience are now=20
going back to basics with a little help from NGOs and other collective=20=

groups.

i guess we should see if he's genuinely posting in a neater way
ie quoting his sources, and stopping to upload html crap. let's
see if he improves... then an outright ban doesn't make sense.

I hope you are all well and will catch up on my return. Briefly: I am
getting a 2000 word article published in Red Pepper, deadline mid Sept. It
is to be an overview of what has been happening in Hackney. I will be
concentrating on that for a bit. I would like to put a request out for any
Hackney articles to be either updated or saved for when I get back...though
I have told others in the community.

OK, thanks for listening, you've been a lovely audience, my name is Andy and

Hey all deleted MJP's racist posting earlier, even though there was a debate after it... which normally I don't like doing, but the debate was really awful and there was loads of stuff going against the guidlines there.

Then of course he did 2 reposts about our "pro-fascist" editorial policy, one of which had quite a large debate after, but I deleted them too cos included the original racist post, and before I've left things off after they've been reposted, but realised that that's bollocks cos then anyone could post anything, no matter how racist.

Hope I did okay - I really hate that fascist piece of shit, btw >:-|

Hi, I am deleting that posting because it is
misleading, or at least it claims to give information
that it is not really giving.- it says that this sect
is trying to make money out of refugees and gives some
websites as proof, but these websites have nothing
about that, at least no today, sunday 11th august at 11.25pm.

Hi John,

good that you did that, but every time we delete
something, can we post in this list exactly what
postings with their urls are deleted.

Also, this guy is posting new and new posts saying,
'article deleted by editors...' things like that. do
we continue deleting? it should be the logical thing
but this is turning into a war...

what do others think?

Hi,

following my own proposal, can i suggest that we add
the following phrase to the features in the world
page:

It seems there was a racist attack on a Jewish
religious establishment. Read the different versions on what happened.

(I'm not sure about html but in case i got it wrong,
this is the actual link:)

and i can't put it on world page so i'd be
gratefull... thanks lovelies!

do we not remove postings, even if they are postings,
if they have swearwords? in the item above, the words
are:

'if you don't like what you see here get the fuck out'

nothing against our guidelines but i find it very

Dear Andi,

I have just read Mike (MJP)'s repost of article 38284, and I would
just like to know why it has been hidden in the first place. I know
this will probably sound contraversion, but I found some valid
arguments on that posting, and I just wonder that if was hidden out
of political correctness. I am not a racist person, nor a facist
person (I am actually left of the so-called "Labour Party"), but I
believe that racism is wrong no matter what skin colour the victim
is (even whites), and some of the points, which were backed by
mainstream sources, did highlight hatred by Muslim extremists, whose
views I find as abhorrent as the governments pro war, pro business
stance. Although the "Britain under sharia law" bit was a bit on the
paranoid side, although there wasn't any out and out hatred in the
article

Could you either give a valid explination to why this article has
been hidden, that I may have overlooked, or reinstate the article?
By the way, don't go thinking I agree with everything that this Mike
has posted.

Also noticed that Jean is at it again, will s/he ever learn?

Cheers,

Tom

I don't think we should be propping up rumours in this way. Very few people
who were there agree with the original posting. I'd say, leave it on the
newswire, but don't make it part of the world page. Or put the whole story into
the context given by the various postings. But we shouldn't be putting up
things like "it seems there was a racist attack" when it clearly seems there
wasn't.

Yeah I hid it (and the other 8 separate reposts...)

First paragraph of the article:
"my opinion is that newcomers to our country must recognise that we native Britons have our own ancient traditions and it is they who must adapt accordingly..."

Discrimination against "foreigners" contravenes editorial guidlines.

Also I hardly think locking people up without trial is "turning a blind eye"...

so there you go.

Oh and andi sorry for taking so long to get back to you about checking the calendar. I get pretty bored at work so will check next 2 months tomorrow, unless it's already been done recently.

Hi,
Has anyone who is monitoring the newswire seen this post:
 http://uk.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=38433&group=webcast ? The
first half reads like a critique of the (contentious) New Testament
condemnation of the Jews as evil. However, in the final paragraph, it seems
that the author is DEFENDING that position (talking about the 'Jewish
Octopus', as manifested in Zionism and 'fascist' capitalism).
As far as I can make sense of it at all, this is clearly breaching the
guidelines.

Subject: [Imc-uk-features] Iraq page proposal
Message-ID:

Hi All,

Andrew / Andi - Thanks for the advice and info.

Further to my previous posts on this topic, this is my proposal for a new
'Iraq' page. I've used the existing 'War in Palestine' and the de-linked
'PeaceNotWar' page as guidelines for what's technically possible.

I suggest a simple intro which will stay at the head of the page, remaining
static except for major changes in the situation. This would be followed (as
per the Palestine page) by brief updates when relevant developments /
stories / action calls or suggestions come in.

Below is an idea for a brief intro (suggestions for an image, anyone?), and
for the first 'update' which contains links to most of the relevant posts
made in the last two weeks (hence it's a bit link-heavy) and a couple of
external links too. Unfortunately, most of the people who participated in
'Iraq page needed' type discussions on the wire didn't have e-mail addresses
so can't be contacted directly to ask for participation. Not sure how to get
the paragraphs separate in HTML, sorry!

I have time to scan the wire and some external sites for news etc. and
produce updates fairly regularly, but obviously the aim would be for as many
people as possible to contribute! How do / did the 'updates' work for the
'Palestine' page? Aside from the fact that it hasn't been updated for a
while, that structure seems sensible.

INTRO:
Threat of war with Iraq

The Bush administration appears determined to pursue a strategy of war with
Iraq to secure a 'regime change'. This action is to be justified on the
grounds of Iraq's development of weapons of mass destruction - a contested
claim, undermined by recent Iraqi moves to re-admit inspection teams.

The US is increasingly isolated in this policy, aside from the unfailing
support of Tony Blair. Mainstream media polling has shown an overwhelming
majority in the UK opposed to action against Iraq. In addition, strong
opposition has been voiced by MPs, leading Republicans, UK / US military
chiefs, United Nations officials, European premiers, several Arab nations,
faith groups and peace organisations.

This page is intended to serve as a resource for news, action reports and
calls relating to Iraq.

UPDATE 12/08/02:

On 6th August (the 57th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing) Trident
Ploughshares / Voices in the Wilderness staged a 'die-in'
at Faslane. Forthcoming actions include the CND and STWC
demonstration on 28th September, and events marking the anniversary of
the 9-11
attacks in the US.

Newswire reports have covered the possibility of nuclear
weapons being used, scepticism amongst politicians in both the US
and the UK,
the legacy of the previous
war and the potential
financial effects of a new attack.

In addition, a number of recent posts have discussed tactics for peace
activists. Read them here [1|2|3|]

This post has the "factual info" from previous ones like 38433, with none of the obviously fascist opinion.

Apart from the fact that it's been posted by a nazi, don't see any guidelines it violates... but it certainly isn't news. I'm going out so so can't delete it myself, but even if it's true I don't think it should be on here. Especially as someone was apparently successfully prosecuted for publishing this text before (see comment after).

Subject: [Imc-uk-features] "newcomers to our country must recognise"
Message-ID:

I wouldn't necessarily say that is a racist post, judging from the
first par (sorry, I haven't read the rest). The test is always whether
we would find the same thing racist (or bigoted in any other way)
against us if it were to appear on, say, Indymedia Mexico, or
Indymedia Russia, or wherever. Saying that people who's ancestors have
lived in a country for a long time have traditions, and that those
traditions need to be understood, is not going to offend anybody
except the most puerile relativist.

However, the bit about them adapting accordingly...I'd leave that in
as well, even though it is more contentious. We want to encourage
debate after all (though not necessarily on the newswire). Views are
views, and I think we should err on the side of openness, not caution.

I believe the article located at:
 http://uk.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=38477&group=webcast
contravenes the IMC's editorial guidelines as it contains a
series of lies and deliberate misinterpretation of Jewish
scripture to incite racial hatred. Parts of the article
closely resemble a book published by the late Jane Birdwood
which resulted in her prosecution and imprisonment for
incitement to racial hatred. As such, the article is not
only racist, it is illegal and could result in a criminal
investigation into IMC.

hi ben, sorry to ansa only now

stuff is removed by people who are communicating via the features list
on  Imc-uk-features@lists.indymedia.org

mostly people tick their name onto a rota circulated on the features
list to make it more transparent who's dun what.

to hide a posting you need the password for the admin page on
 http://uk.indymedia.org:8081/display.php3?led=y&first=&edit_comments=y

in order to obtain a password you'd have to engage on the features list,
or approach one of the localised imc's like bristol
[ imc-bristol@lists.indymedia.org] or wales [ imc-cymru@yahoogroups.com].
imc-scotland is now setting up but i don't know their list address.
there's as well a group meeting in london on wednesday's (check the
calendar for details) and a list by other london people on
 imc-london-wg-general@lists.indymedia.org.

cheers andi

Message-ID:

Re:  http://uk.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=38477&group=webcast

Our attention has been drawn to the above article currently appearing on
Indymedia UK. It is clearly the work of a virulent anti-semite. In
particular, the piece speaks highly of Lady Jane Birdwood, without
mentioning that she is a prominent Nazi. The piece is followed by a
comment
comprising racist abuse against Jews and a call for Judaism to be
"banned".

According to your Editorial Guidelines document, the IMC UK Collective can
remove "posts intending to oppress - using language, imagery, or other
forms
of communication which promote racism, fascism, xenophobia, sexism, or any
other form of discrimination".

The anti-semitic piece falls under that definition and we would therefore
urge you to remove it as soon as possible. Internet Nazis are -
unfortunately - well-organised. If IndyMedia UK is seen to tolerate one
anti-semitic article, it will soon have a deluge on its hands.

Yours in solidarity

In-Reply-To:
Message-ID:

hi there all -

i'm back after a bit of a holiday from cyberspace
well the real world isn't so bad after all
life in a dome by the canal in oxford and stuff - you know very
pleasant if you like that sort of thing.
Personally, give me manchester and VDU psychosis anyday!

anyway,
there's a supporting feature that can be used for the
smokey bears picnic
it's called grass roots
and i've entered the detail into Beyond TV -
The video can be seen at the following page there.

 http://www.beyondtv.org/pages/feature_page.php/40/

This shows the kind of supportive role that we plan to play
for campaigns and video groups.
ie. putting up video and linking it with relevant campaigns,
projects and events.

As you can see if you do visit the page mentioned above -
there's a "get involved" button
when people push that,
they are taken to the Events - and Projects
associated with the campaign -

One way BeyondTV could work effectively with Indymedia is
for Indymedia to link to a page such as the one above
when there is Video content. In this was users/ viewers
are encouraged to participate and are provided with contact details
to do so.

I've been putting in details of projects and events -
I'm interested in feedback for how to link this up with
protest.net as well -

and if anyone is interested in checking it out and giving
bug reports and the like then please go to the site
and try to enter real information -
and email comments to me at  mickfuzz@rocketmail.com

cheers
