A TEARFUL AND HEARTFELT GOODBYE TO CLAIRE SHORT
She said Britain's favourite newspaper was "nasty". And she accused Page 3 pictures of portraying women as objects of lust, "to be sniggered over and grabbed at, rather than portraying sex as tender and private".
But Tory MP Robert Adley accused her of prejudice and said she was trying to spoil one of the few pleasures left in life. The Bill never became law. Like Clare Short herself, it was a failure.

FOR me and my Page Three colleagues Clare Short's resignation marks the defeat of an old foe.
And today I stand proud in the knowledge that our appeal has prevailed. So goodbye Clare Killjoy and good riddance. Time has been our testament. Page Three is more popular than ever and our fan base grows bigger all the time.
Killjoy should be ashamed of herself - she tried to discredit us for creating a sex culture when really we are the defenders of a feel-good culture.
Frumpy Clare needs to lighten up. We make people happy, delivering a daily dose of fun. Younger readers may not be aware of her attempts to ban Page Three.
She has proved herself out of touch with the public on so many issues.
But I don't want to bear grudges so my next photo in The Sun is dedicated specially to you, Killjoy.
Q: Are you optimistic about the road map for Middle East peace?
A: Unfortunately, not at all. After 36 years of occupation it should be totally clear that the Middle East needs a just peace, or there will be no peace. The combination of the people in power in Israel (my country) and the US have no such values to contribute.
The requirement that cessation of violence must be a precondition for political progress is a sure formula for no progress. So many of us, including hundreds of military officers and expert journalists, have come to the conclusion that it is an intended policy of the Israeli government to provoke Palestinian violence, whenever it senses a political process that may threaten the continuation of the occupation and the settlements.
