Saudi Slander of Anti-Globalists

Saudi Slander of Anti-Globalist Demonstrators

Dr. Abdul Wahid Al-Humaid wrote an article which appeared in three Saudi dailies this week. [1] Dr. Abdul Wahid Al-Humaid is the Secretary General of the Manpower Council in Saudi Arabia, which is responsibile for economic and social development in both the public and private sectors of Saudi Arabia. [2] The Manpower Council falls under the auspices of the Ministry of Interior, headed by Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz. [3] The following are excerpts from the article:

Watching the anti-globalization demonstrators rampaging through the streets of Geneva not far from the headquarters of the World Trade Organization, it is easy to identify the type of people who took it upon themselves to fight globalization. From their appearances, they look like people from the 1950's and 60's. I can't understand why the defenders of poor countries and just causes are those who lead lives neither socially normal nor conventional."

" Why not use more serious and rational means to influence the course of events instead of allowing anarchists to dominate the scene? Globalization in its present shape is meant to make the strong manipulate and triumph over the poor."

"Some of the demonstrators appeared like clowns, others were dressed in rags and odd bits of clothes while still others seemed drunk, judging from the way they behaved. Is it really necessary for the anti-globalization movement to be led by people such as these? It is said the protesters behave in this way to mislead people into believing they really detest materialistic life in rich countries, and that they are expressing true feelings of sympathy [for] the world's poor."

'We are not Going to Win the Battle against Globalization by Appearing in Shabby Clothes' "We are not going to win the battle against globalization by appearing in shabby clothes. What we need is to be able to convince others of our point of view, tell them that globalization as it exists today is unjust and will only cause more damage to developing countries. It is a concept fashioned and modeled to benefit the rich while depriving the poor of everything. We need a just globalization that benefits all and not one that favors a few over the overwhelming majority." [4]

Maybe the Saudis have a point. The anti-globalisation movement must get better organised and be more determined to achieve their goal, in order to be an example for others to follow them.

Well at least the Saudi media reported it!!

13.06.2003 07:14

Itappears from this that Saudi media reported the protests - which is more than can be said for British media even though we're far nearer geographically.

don't know

Does the man want something different?

13.06.2003 07:19

the Saudi man wants a globalisation that benefits everyone. That is a different point from that made by most anti-globalisation protesters who are against globalisation, which would mean a global process involving major powers, instead of the unique diversity of different cultures, indigenous and traditional people.

anti Arab propaganda,

U WOT

How?

13.06.2003 09:12

You cannot call this anti - arab! if it was said about Britain it would have been fine, if it was said about the UK it would of been fine. You can't call me anti-Arab because i am Arabic, but you have top realise that in every country there are bad people and the Arab nations are no exeption!

Normal?

13.06.2003 13:48

The writer says "I can't understand why the defenders of poor countries and just causes are those who lead lives neither socially normal nor conventional"

This comes from a man whose government thinks it normal to behead adulterers and homosexuals, where women are stoned to death on their husband's wishes, where opponents of the vile fascist Al-Saud regime are routinely arrested and tortured, where they wish to stitch up foreigners for crimes committed by their home-grown terrorist organisations. Saudi Arabia is a medieval society, but allowed to remain so because of Western oil interests. How can they accuse anti-globalisation activists of being socially abnormal when violence is so endemic in their culture?

normal innit ?

The Arabs have been subject to western fuckery for centuries
the fact that Saudi Arabia exists at all is part of "the big game" they are well divided and ruled over by puppet tinpot dictators who do exactly what their western masters order.
I can't see that anything they say has got much relevance to wots going down today.
The whole region is carved up to suit the oil companies and
the whole African continent is much of the same.
Israeli propaganda has always been in a class of it's own it's fucking going well now, as is Mossad which is the worlds No 1 intelligence agency. Abdul kebabdal ain't got a chance..
I guess I always support the underdog.. I always felt a bit that way meself ....

U Wot

'u wot' is a racist

What the hell has the article got to do with Israel, or Zionism?? Or are u just an Israel/Zionism-obsessed racist hatemonger? Come on imc-er, delete THAT filthy hate-ridden post!

> as is Mossad which is the worlds No 1 intelligence agency.
Which is why u wouldn't ever stand a chance of joining it.

Saudi arabia and Israel both US lackeys

14.06.2003 19:10

Yes, Israel is bad, very bad. But do not make the mistake that Saudi Arabia is good. The leaders of Saudi Arabia are not only imperialist lackeys, for gods sake the Saudi royal family owes its existence to the British empire's struggle against the Ottoman Empire (read T.E. Lawrence's the seven pillars of Wisdom or watch the film Lawrence of Arabia). The Saudi ruling class are not on the side of the arab workers or normal arab people or the palestinians and have never been so. Israel is the prime persecutor of the Palestinians but the various Arab ruling classes have been more than willing to help the Israelis. The point i am making is that the Arab rulers are insignificant, they are not on our side, and certainly not on the side of the poor and downtrodden either in their own countries or anywhere else.
