Leeds IMC has better web-design than Manchester IMC!

Joe Yorkshire | 08.07.2003 23:47

Just had a look at the Leeds IMC and I must say the design and clour scheme of the site is much GREENER and definitely easier on the eye than the Manchwster site.

Have a look at the amazing new Leeds indymedia web-site!

It's so GREEN and easy on the eye. The fonts are just the right size and don't create eye-strain. But then, as a member of the Yorkshire diaspora in Manchester, I may be just a little bit biased.

I personally prefer the Manchester site. Go figure.

that we are not yet perfectly sorted out with the new website- one thing we still have difficulties in, is the layout, as the change of layout is now a bit more complicated as before.
as the regions decide themselves their colourscheme, it is entirely dependant on if and how much knowledge they have to change this.
we have the same problem in scotland- but yes, Leeds website looks great, well done!
I like that is is very colourfull and the banner looks fantastic and very happy and positive.

Leeds Clearly is the Best

09.07.2003 13:14

I am definitely biased as i am a Leeds IMCer, but there is no doubt whatsoever to anyone in the Global Indymedia network, that Leeds has the best god damn banner and colour scheme. I have seen a poll saying as much.

What we would prefer, however, is if the content matched the facia

Yes

Yes, the colour schema is better to read generally.
However, in the Leeds site ----- the writing red in green below events is also capable of improvement.

More Local

At last something more local to torment

I suppose I must have clocked some of you guys at Menwith

On second thoughts...

The Manchester site looks 'empty' compared to Leeds, and the newswire on Manc looks horrible, blue on black!!! But then, aren't all the IMCs supposed to be working together in a collective, rather than bickering over who has the best colour scheme?

this is not news...why couldn't you have sent an email to the mcr crew instead of posting this worthless comment...

if the Leeds IMC site is SO HOT, why are you bothering us with your presence even? After all, the Leeds site is so GREEN & HOT, or should I say GGGRRRREEEENNNN (do you mean naive, inexperienced or what?)

And hey, how come you've the time to chat, must mean you're not doing anything over your side of the Pennines, eh ;-) Jealous of our rain or summint? As someone said, your site seems a bit empty - we're just a bit too busy to make ours so GREEN.

Pity your banner takes so long to load and compared with our original local view optimized sexy banner, well, need I say more....

I have seen a poll anyway that says that just 'cos Mancs started out as the scum making the textiles that the Leeds snobby merchants then sold off our backs, that we ROCK. The poll was unanimous and based on an entirely representative sample.

And Mr 'not news', why post a post that isn't news saying something else isn't news, or indeed this post, or the one below, or the one below that - which I REALLY disagree with

blather blather, disappears up his own arse >

the manchester site was created with in about 30 minutes -
there's been no design work put into it.
apart from the banner which was designed for the pre-mir website
the reason being that it's nice to sit down with a wide number of people and collectively decide on the colour scheme - rather than acting as a technocrat and just going for it.

I'm sorry to not really be able to join in the debate as fully as i would like and really get my teeth into it like the internet pitbull i'd so dearly like to be!

But i'll make up some stuff anyway.

It's clear that the manchester site was just effortlessly sneezed out in a casual moment. Unfortunately the Leeds site looks as if you've sneezed over the screen.

Mick Fuzz Smells

Its true - i've seen a poll saying as much. Mick...you keep trying to make Manchester a second rate IMC site and we'll just keep getting the IMC gongs.

THIS IS WAR!

and yeah, it is a bit green, but our banner is the greatest ever thing...ever.

Eye-sight Health and Indymdedia

12.07.2003 23:53

The important point here is Internet eyesight health. At the moment most people still use 15 inch cathode ray tube (CRT) monitors which do actually damage eye-sight. Why make this problem worse by using small fonts, and colours schemes, that make it difficult to distinguish the written word? I appreciate that the Manchester site has just got started and people have not had a chance to consider these issues--but I hope that my comments will be considered.

It is currently fashionable to have small fonts on many commercial web-sites (god alone knows why). Why-oh-why is the non-corporate media emulating this ridiculous trend? I think it is a legitmate exercise to look at all the new UK Indymedia sites and compare them from the point of view of eye health.

I have just had another loook at all the new regional IMC sites and Sheffield looks even better than Leeds!

And they do better fish and chips in West Yorks... :)
