SUPPORT NEEDED - Animal rights activsts have D-locked onto Banksy's new exhibition in Hackney. Spray painted live Cows, Sheep and Pigs are on display.

Banksy's new show opened in Hackney last night ( 479 - 483 Kingsland Road, London E8 ), Turf War has a Bull and a Cow tethered on a foot of rope in a scaffold pen spray painted with Banksy tags and Andy Warhole images, two sheep sprayed in black and white stripes, and two pigs painted in blue and white cheques (pigs, get it !). The opening night was rammed with onlookers and the temperature in the building was very hot and humid with no obvious presence of anyone tending to the animals. The music levels were very high and one of the pigs was displaying symptoms of stress (rocking sideways and throwing water / food container around pen).
This morning when the 'show' opened (10am) an animal rights activist D-locked herself to one of the exhibitions. The gallery was cleared and closed to the public (10.30am), at time of writing 1pm it is still closed and turning people away. The activist and associate are still in the building and support is needed, get down there.

I spend to much time in my cult of celebrity world, I'm so fucking cool and worshipped by my followers, give me more praise, attention and publicity.

Yes balls to Banksy

Like a lot of people I used to think Banksy was the bees knees, causing trouble in public space, playing around with elements of control and sticking two fingers up at authority.

Graffiti is a great social art form, requiring no "art gallery" support, utilising unused public space and requiring no purchase to view. Now Banksy sells limited edition prints of his work to celebs, holds shows with big bouncers, guestlists of celebs and only seems to spray up pieces in trendy areas of London(Shorditch etc). Not so much selling out, as a complete rejection of the principals he stood for.

Balls to Banksy, I hope he likes his new coke sniffing PR, Graphic Design & Fine Art mates with their dodgy haircuts and comfortable lives. Living on their parents money, and having nice safe hidden away exhibitions where the public are not invited, and big strong bouncers keep them safe from the streets that they pretend to be from.

Bah Humbug!

Barry

I disagree for things said on the site, Banksy might be going against what he stood for origionally, but although many people criticise graffiti it is a modern art form and should be displayed to the public. It has come from the streets and now is getting regognition more than seen as a petty crime. His 'new' lifestyle will last while he is exhibiting his art, he is still standing for what he wants but making a name for the art that peop[le disagree with so i praise him for what hes doing.

fuck the animals theyl die anyway.
resp Banksy

Bringing light to the grim north

banksy's been on a bit of a paint spree in liverpool recently... he ain't doing it anywhere posh, he ain't doing it anywhere that he'll get recognition, he's doing it the rundown bits of the city centre, making my day a bit brighter, and inspiring others around the city. maybe in london its gone a bit stale, but here he's unappreciated- they've just boarded over my fave piece, but that doesn't stop him, he's made his mark on the canvas of london, but he's still doing his thing, he's just diversifying, and isnt that what art is about....
