Dont be violent please

23.07.2003 16:29

I noticed this email was very aggressive - I urge people that being aggressve will get us nowhere - we must encourage respect for all things. I know the people who produce arms and sell arms - are doing bad things - but we must remember they are all part of the human race and they are not bad people - we must convince them by showing how loving and peaceful we can be. I would like to attend the demo in London - but will no consider it unless there is a promise it will be peaceful and spread positive energy instead of being aggresive.

apologies for this coming up here - i was placing it on two regional sites, liverpool & scotland and it seems to have popped up here. does that always happen? apologies either way.

paul

maybe not

23.07.2003 16:50

theere are not bad people? without wishing to sound like bush here, um, i don't know what could constiture bad if this doesn't!

child soldiers, landmines (anti-vehicle or otherwise), weapons to nations at war, weapons to the despots whose peoples are starving, weapons to the regime bombing villages in Aceh, guns, bombs & death... the incubator of slaughter.

thats pretty bad in my book!

you have the right to your opinion of course! but so do others. i think that we can stop hundreds of millions of pounds worth of (killing) contracts in september and if a blockade of random metal objects and a burning bin can help then i think that the negative energies created will have been worth it.

is that violence?

Balance needed

23.07.2003 17:20

The person who thinks that arms sellers aren't 'bad people' is obviously having some kind of moral crisis.

However, he is right that any disruptive action taken against the arms fair will have to be targeted and made clearly understandable to the general public.

Seeking confrontation with the police is not going to help our cause. But confronting the arms sellers is.

And I'm not a soft liberal. Just against the self-indulgence of so-called anarchists.
But whatever: DSEI will be shut down.

Absolutely!

23.07.2003 17:50

"I notice this email was very aggressive" - Absolutely! I can see that. you're not mad or anything, Rupert, not at all. In fact if everyone thought like you we'd change the world really quickly. I'd luurvvv to live in a world run by people like you, Rupert.

This dsei thing seems to be about protesting against arms dealers - that is so aggressive! I mean, they can't help it can they? I think it's really important we don't alienate people like Rupert who thinks arms dealers aren't bad people by protesting in a confrontational and negative way. All that noise, ugh! it does terrble things to my karma. In fact I don't think we should alienate arms dealers. They can't help it, they've got a damaged inner child. Like all of us. and if you don't agree with me on that you're in denial. And probably working class. Well, common anyway.

Maybe we could become arms dealers and change the arms industry from inside. No really. We could set up ethical arms traders as a workers co-op and only sell arms to nice people. I'm sure they'd let us do that. I'm sure we could get government grant! Daddy could keep us going for a while anyway.

Of course if you disagree with me I'll demask you, grass you up so the cops can lock you up and feel all righteous while I'm doing it.

I hear there is some Art Council of England funding to illustrate how arms dealign is another job.

Of course you do not have to be a yogic flyer .... some artistic ability to exress your self that way will do...drama skills will always be most helpful.

All the best in cleaing the inner lining of the of the queens anal canal.

tell the whole world yr plans, why don't you!

24.07.2003 00:23

the word "covert" doesn't come to mind with this action. Affinity groups all the way, should be the way. Blockades are affinity group actions, not elaborate covers for mass actions - where they have been given pre-publicity so that the state will be ready for us on the day.
really.... a little more thought is needed guys. What has now been advertised as a blockade will now likely be a police-cordon.

wake up please

24.07.2003 12:57

You have insisted on letting the authorities know your plans for protests
and then you complain when the police arrest and beat up your whingeing middle class angst
Are you stupid enough to assume that the MI5 and govt and police don not routinely screen these "subersive websites" to counter attack your "freedoms" and "right to protest"
Fuck me you must be stupid

Friendly advice-change your plans

26.07.2003 13:24

Hi Paul

If your public call to action here was a bluff to distract the Plods, well done.

If not, you should change your arrangements forthwith. Indymedia is a good place to report actions but not a good place to state your future plans except in the vaguest of ways.

If I can make a suggestion, it is to find yourself an affinity group to work with in actions like this, to whom you can communicate in a less public manner. Why not get on the emailing list of some local groups so you can plug into a local network? You could also attend one of the training courses sometimes seen here on methods of direct action, as these might be helpful in learning practical planning strategies and methods. All the best. :)

a friend xx

i agree

27.07.2003 20:05

hi friend, I agree with you. I was dropping this here after getting it from the dsei mailing list, but the plans do seem odd and so yes, I will be attending with/in an 'affinity group' and taking things from there.

however, there are concrete plans out there aimed at max disruption for sure.
