When the BBC recently filmed "Question Time" from studios in Burnley, the fact the British National Party was not involved caused much embarrassment and consternation within the corporation. Such a blatant overlooking of a major local political entity was obviously playing loose and fast with the BBC's own charter on impartiality.

With this in mind the British National Party decided to keep the fact that a representative had been invited onto a special "Panorama" asylum panel relatively low key.

The BNP's involvement would have seen us take part in tomorrow's (Weds 23rd July) special day of programming concerning the issue of asylum. This of course was only logical as the perceived threat of the BNP winning electorally was the primary reason why the whole asylum issue had been thrust into the public arena.

However, yesterday afternoon, a telephone call was received informing the Party that our involvement in the programme had been suddenly cancelled. Consequently what would have been a lively debate, broadly in tune with public opinion and reflecting recent electoral trends has been transformed into something completely different. Once again it would seem, the long suffering British public are to endure another emasculated
and skewed offering from our state funded broadcaster on immigration related affairs.

The sequence of events regarding the BNP's unprecedented dropping
from the "asylum" itinerary is as follows. The BBC journalist who liased with the party is referred to as "NB" in the telephone transcripts.

Thursday 10th July

NB " Can I speak to a British National Party councillor."
Cllr Simon Darby (BNP West Mids Organiser) "Yes, of course, who's calling please"
NB "I am from the BBC and we want to have a BNP councillor from the midlands as part of a special panel concerning a debate about asylum."
SD " Well, I'm a councillor myself and I might be able to help you out. Can you tell me a little more about the circumstances of the programme?"
NB "Sure, it's part of a whole series of programmes on Wednesday 23rd concerning asylum and we would need you in the studio at around about 10pm."
SD " Who else is on the panel and which studio would it be filmed from?"
NB "The programme is being broadcast live from Liverpool, but we can get you into a studio at Pebble Mill. Oliver Letwin will be one of the other panelists, can I give you a call next week to finalise things?
SD "No problem , I look forward to it."

NB " Hello, it's NB from the BBC here just ringing to see if we are still on for next week."

NB " We will send a car for you, what time should it arrive to get you in studio by 10pm?"

Twenty-inch colour televisions complete with licenses, fridges, freezers, council tax paid, electricity and gas bills paid, all telephone bills paid, they even get their windows cleaned for them. I would also like to explain our exact obligations with regards the United Nations. Namely, the fact that the Dublin convention (1990) establishes a common criteria for EU member states to determinate state responsibility for asylum seekers based on the relevant "safe country". Therefore, we are only obliged to take in asylum seekers from Ireland, Iceland and Belgium for instance.
Also I would like to negate the spurious economic arguments about accepting asylum seekers. Asylum seekers artificially depress wages in industrial sectors where they seek employment. As such this creates non-viable employment prospects for the indigenous population and also severely affects the prospects of the more established immigrant populations. In any case if all these people are so hard-working and qualified, as the liberals say, what right have we got in looting the third world of all its best people?"

SD " Obviously I will be a bit better explaining things in the studio, it's just that it was so hot last night I never got any sleep at all."

Government Pressure?

So just what was it that provoked this sudden change of mind within the
heart of BBC political programming? Was it perhaps the undignified squabbling between the government and the BBC over the Iraq conflict that had literally driven a civil servant to death. Could it be that having the BNP pushing the Home Secretary hard over asylum live on television in front of an audience of millions would have put even more strain on the already precarious working relationship between the government and the beeb.

One thing is for sure though, the BBC's own charter on impartiality states that; "No significant strand of thought should go unselected or under represented on the BBC." A fact that British people are constantly reminded of when the BBC deals with the 9% of the population that make up the ethnic minorities.

Moreover, there is obviously increasing friction between middle-management at the BBC, who are perfectly at ease with allowing the views of British nationalists to be broadcast, and the politically-motivated
elite who occupy the higher echelons of the corporation. At a time when the BBC is seeking to repair its somewhat tarnished image, this heavy handed and clumsy censorship will do them no favours whatsoever amongst an increasing sceptical and angry British electorate.

Sandwell Council motion

It is ironic that in Sandwell, where the BBC focuses much of Wednesdays' asylum programming, two British National Party councillors will tonight be putting forward a motion. That motion, that will be read at a full council meeting in front of every single councillor in Sandwell, reads as follows:

"The BNP group hereby propose the following motion for consideration at the Council meeting on 22nd of July, 2003, and that the motion be considered without reference to a Committee, or Cabinet Member.

''That the dispersal, and current housing within Sandwell, of all
Economic Migrants, termed largely as ''Asylum Seekers'', should be halted at the earliest opportunity, and the relevant government minister, and/or department, as necessary, be informed of this resolution.''


Although it is highly unlikely that this motion will be carried, its objectives will not be lost on the people of Sandwell. It is just the first in a number of steps the BNP has to take in order to win our country back for our people. But make no mistake about it, we have started that process, and our people are well aware and increasing receptive to our message.

The BBC and New Labour alike might try to pretend that we do not exist, but after the events of the last week, their reflective roles in being entrusted to represent British public opinion are looking increasingly untenable

I don't know what your on about, you sad little man - so the bnp wern't actually physically present - watching it the attitudes of little england, with its smug comfortable ignorance, showed us that the bnp is a train of thought running [weak] through a whole stratum of society.

The last paid work I did was at a local food processing factory - 10 days of 12 hour shifts for shit money, with a pathetic bonus held out to us if we completed all the hours. Along side us were a bunch of Kurdish aslyum seekers.

Not only did they get paid at a lessser rate, they were not up for the bonus, they had to travel to and from another city (150+miles) AND pay for the transport, they were given different coloured hair nets, I heard management and shop floor staff constantly demean them and take the piss and at the end of one shift their bus never turned up and were forced to 'sleep' in one of the werehouses. On top of all this, another day their bus was late arriving and they were docked half a days wages!

Despite all this, they were pleased to be working, thankful for the opportunity to [perhaps] assist their stay in this shitty little 1st world service economy and on the whole happy people to be with. The insults and the exploitation they were aware of - but found it a much better solution than poverty and oppression at home.

Needless to say, some of us took exception to the attitude of the little englanders ever present and the meaness of the company - our hardest paddington bear stares for the 'working' men and women, a great deal of sabotage in the work place for that feeelthy capitalist entity making a mockery of food and people.

My point is, that the bnp represent precisely the attitudes of far to many people in this country and are a logical expression of the capitalist system that pits oppressed against oppressed with the enticement of a rotten carrot for their support.

Whatever the bbc's motivation, it fullfilled its remit to 'educate'.

The problem with the Left is that many within it have little or no idea how to relate to working class people. The Left is too busy organising around issues relevant to them, rather than the class. Thus the Left minority stays an inward-looking minority, rather than an outward-advancing force of significant size. Comrades must make a concerted turn to local community-based politics, so that the helpless and abandoned feel like they at last have a voice, and control over their communities. Otherwise the asylum issue will become a bigger and bigger scapegoat for peoples angst, and fascism will continue to grow.

This country has been multi-cultural for thousands of years; I won't go into the history, as we all know it. My point is that since the end of the Second World War this country has been invaded by different races & in such numbers that they will never assimilate. In other words we are building seperate nations within a nation. Diane Abbott has already suggested we have quotas for Parliamentary candidates. This is apartheid in reverse - I vote because of policy, not skin colour. There is also a Muslim Parliament. This is a case of parallel societies being formed. This is divisive and can only fractionalise the country. And as we become a minority over the next century, we will become further disenfranchised. Great, isn't it?

My point is that this has been a creeping vine used to strangle national feeling & identity - specifically amongst the English, it seems to me. The original meaning of 'nation' by the way is a community of related peoples - i.e the same ethnic group. This policy has never had the mandate of the indigenous people, and therefore is undemocratic. It is also autocratic because there is no right of protest. This is the new Inquisition. Our ancestors built this country & now we are throwing away our inheritance in a frenzy of post colonial guilt; it must be the first time in history that a people have 'willingly' given up their ancestral homeland. Genetically speaking there are very few places on the earth that have not seen considerable mixing from what has become to be known as race - really an arbitary distinction that has no biological meaning ...

Peoples from around the globe can mate - if they so desire - with any other peoples from around the globe ...

For the record, humans share 60% of their gentic make up with that of the lettuce.

My main fear (and yes, it fills me with dread) is the European/Western culture is dying. This is being brought on (here we go again!)by a massive invasion of our our lands. I make no excuses - I abhor imperialism and very much regret the impact we have had on native cultures around the world. This is all well & good in hindsight. I am aware of an almost karmic justice in our present state of affairs, but surely two wrongs don't make a right. Isn't our heritage worth preserving? No-one has mentioned the genocidal implication I posted yesterday. Can't you see my concern? Look it up on the UN website - it's all there in black & white. Don't you think that it's relevant to the times we are living in?

I may be paranoid & a Little Englander, but I believe my concerns are wholly justified. I am not trying to stir up hate, but I sincerely believe we are victims of a huge injustice. Yes people were invited here to work, but without the mandate of the British people. Successive governments have been aware of the discontent of many people, who are against this policy. They have failed to deliver on any of their assurances (Maggie Thatcher, 1979 election) & have actively stifled any opposition. This is not a free country & is ever nearer to Orwell's '1984' - or more accurately, Huxley's 'Brave New World', where people don't even realise they are being oppressed.

If other cultures & races througout the world are worth preserving, then surely ours is. That is the true meaning of diversity - a world of different peoples & cultures. We don't have to replicate the world at home. If you import the Third World, you become the Third World.

I agree with Jack's points about South American countries, but the indigenous populations still face a daily battle against the imposed Hispanic hierarchy. This is racism. This is what we will become if something isn't done soon - we are about to become disenfranchised, without a doubt.

I think you've been hanging out with too many of your SWP cronies. Even black and white issues aside, perhaps you should go to Scotland, Wales or even Ireland and tell them that a pride in their respective cultures, history and language are basically derived from really an arbitary distinction that has no biological meaning.
