It's just one of dozens of companies that distribute BP solar panels. There were other people at the Big Green selling BP solar too. And infact, at least half of the panels being used to power the site were from BP. That shouldn't be supprising, BP is the biggest player in solar these days - obviously not because they have seen the light - more that they want to have a major foot in the door in controlling the market. Shell is also one of the major players in solar and there are obvious reasons why scum like BP and Shell would buy into solar.
But what would you have the Big Green do? If you are looking for non green or non ethical stuff at the Big Green it's not too hard to find dozens of examples. There is little truely sustainable about such an event.
But why pick on Wind and Sun? They are a small company selling a wide range of stuff and just like eveyone selling renewable energy stuff, they sell stuff from big corporations who do bad shit. So whats new?

Yes BP make solar panels, and yes they - and others - have tried to 'corner' the market in this and other non-fossel fuel technologies.
Yes there were BP solar panels in use at BGG.
Yes there were attempts by BP and others to co-opt, appropriate and 're-colonise' the resource use and distribution at BGG.
So ...
This is the nature of the capitalist beast we face - every culture, art form, holistic and particular world view has had the cold clamy hand of these corporate monoliths placed upon their activities. Colonisation continues apace as for now as then.
The fact is that there were as many non BP solar panels, as many non corporate energy systems etc etc.
What sort of fuel did the people use to get there? Non fossel fuels?
We must not divide ourselves up into those that would disfigure themselves in total avoidence of the capitalist machine against those that compromise either out of convienience or lack of time money etc. Capitalism cuts across our lives everywhere.
The computers you are using to read this were manufactured by low wage/slave wage workers - the power to run them comes from atom smashing military loving power companies ...
Leave your noses in place whilst you transit from exploited to empowered would be my humble advice.
What were the aims of the organisers of BGG? To fool you all for money?
Believing that - you have lost already.
An attempt was made to bring people together in order to better ourselves AND have some fun - find out the ridiculous restrictions placed on the organisers by councils and police types. Try holding a free festival .. go on .. it will be small, badly attended and prone to immeadiate police repression the moment any political or non corporate drug culture rises above the damp gloom.
Use your efforts and outrage to make next BGG better .. or else sanctify yourselves with fine words and holier than thou pronouncements from the sidelines of history ...
