The march was a complete washout and waste of time

The march was a complete washout and waste of time. Only a few hundred turned out and energy was wasted in building for a pointless march when all the energy should be focused on getting tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of people down to the Excel Exhibition Centre on Tuesday and Wednesday where the arms fair is being held! It would have been better is everyone on the march had spent the day leafleting for the anti-arms fair actions instead.

Info on other DSEi actions was distributed

06.09.2003 17:02

Re. Rockwell's comments, information about other anti-DSEi actions was distributed. The march may not have been huge, but it was colourful and theatrical and attracted a lot of attention(and support)from members of the public. Also it was a great opportunity for people to meet and network and plan their actions for later in the week.

Rockwell, you're a real 'party pooper'!

Cynical

I hate the SWP right, But why is it when they are behind protests, thousands turn up? 700 hundred people turning up today was pathetic.

Attention seeking?

Karuna,
Having a dance is not what it is all about.
DSEi MUST BE STOPPED.
I do not like Rockwell but Rockwell is right.
What Rockwell is saying is that leaflets could have been districuted at 700 junctions instead of the prearranged path being herded down.

Not a wate of time!

Ok, it's a shame there weren't 1000's of people there, but shirley it was better than staying at home and watching TV. It was also a good chance for those of us who will not be able to make it to Desi next week to show solidarity with those who can. And jeeez it was worth going just to heat the, "They lied, they lied, they lied" song, fantastic!

Better some than none

I see what you're saying Rockwell -it was disappointing that there weren't more peeps out and about but at least there were some peeps doing their bit. However inneffective you may see their actions, you saw them, so it can't be a complete waste of time. Personally, I found out a lot of useful things that I wouldn't've known about otherwise, picked up leaflets etc, and I hope most people there on Saturday (who aren't working) like me will be going back up this week to carry on what we started. I guess everyone has their own way of doing things and a lot of people who are prepared to march aren't prepared to leaflet or take other forms of direct action. Whatever people are prepared to do, it's better than doing nothing.
