If this is victory, what would defeat look like?

peaceterrororist2003@yahoo.co.uk | 17.09.2003 15:07 | Sheffield

Three months after the war in Iraq, the US has admitted its soldiers are embroiled in a full guerrilla war. The Iraqi people are subjected to a colonial military occupation. Despite the billions being spent on the war and occupation, the Iraqis are suffering shortages of water and electricity, and face total disruption to their everyday rights. After years of dictatorship, they are denied any democratic voice or say in the running of their country.

Contrary to everything that Bush and Blair told us, the Iraqis did not welcome the military forces as liberators and every day there are demonstrations in Iraq asking them to leave.

Wot, no WMDs?

Everything that the anti-war movement said about this war has proved to be true. We were told that the war was to disarm Saddam Hussein, but no weapons of mass destruction have been found. Evidence that Iraq bought uranium from the African state of Niger has been shown to be forged. Tony Blair is continuing to claim that British intelligence had such evidence, but even the CIA has denied this.

Despite talk of the ‘special relationship’ between Britain and the US, George Bush clearly doesn’t care enough to even release the prisoners from Guantanamo Bay.

Our movement nearly stopped the war, with millions taking to the streets. Now we have to redouble our efforts to bring the government to account and to immediately end the occupation of Iraq.

The Stop the War Coalition, along with CND and the Muslim Association of Britain, is therefore calling a demonstration on 27 September in London. Help make it a huge protest which Tony Blair cannot ignore.

Time for something new?

"A huge protest that Tony Blair can't ignore" ??? Maybe kind of like the biggest demo ever, of 1-2 million people that we had before the war, which was pretty much completely ignored by the same Tony Blair? You can have as many people as you like parading around London and it won't change much,if thats all they're going to do. Has anyone else noticed that these lefty paper sellers conventions seem to be something of a dead end? 50,000 people occupying Fairford airbase when the B-52's were running from there could have had a much greater impact on the war than 20 times as many people on a London demo, and a bit more imagination could help now as well.

Something New?

I kind of agree with above but I do think demo's do have some value. It won't persuade Blair but does give support to those against him - there's already been 3 cabinet resignations which prob wouldn't have happened if it were not for the massive public opposition to war.

But more importantly these big spectacles give support to the Iraqi resistance - it shows them that the UK is on there side and not the side of our govt.

Just heard that UN Inspector Blix said he nows believes Iraq got rid of all it's weapons 10 years ago.

You might get 1-2 million peacfully marching in London, no chance of getting them to storm Fairford, Menwith Hill etc.

Lets build on the things we have, from small acorns an all that.

If they do London and it starts to make a difference them they might consider it worth going further!

I am a 'newbie' and it started with me tramping round Sheffield thinking "this is good, i want to do more"

Please dont knock this demo, actively support it, it does make a difference and will galvanise public minds again.

In Iraq since "hositilities ended"
No WMD
No Saddam
No Osama
No 9/11 - Iraq link (and thats from the mouth of bumbling bastard)

Yes to hatred of the west
Yes to troops dying daily

Lets make it stop, before we start on Iran, Syria etc

Andy

I would say...........

As you all know, Bush and blair went to IRAQ for the killing of people and taking their oil, so I would say why do not we get rid of Bush and Blair so we could save the whole world.

I would be so happy if someone comes to me and say Bush and Blair were killed.
