COMING SOON: New anti-capitalist newswire. Get involved!

enrager.net | 09.10.2003 08:27 | Indymedia

We at enrager are building an online resource and community for the british
libertarian movement, which also aims to have a comprehensive set of
information and news for people new to anticapitalist ideas etc. and we're looking for
other groups and individuals to get involved!

The site will be structured around
* a moderated newswire: allowing everyone to contribute their news &
analysis and collating other news from anti-capitalist groups
* a collection of webpages: providing listings and information on all
horizontally-organised anti-capitalist groups in Britain, and detailed
information on theory, ideas and history
* a set of discussion forums: allowing anti-authoritarians to communicate
& develop links and ideas together

With the newswire we want to get all the news from anarchist and libertarian sources and
put them together in one place - cos all together the movement could
create a formidable news resource. So far we're going to be getting all
the news from Freedom, the AF (resistance and organise), the anarchist
workers network, and other places like a-infos etc. and we would like to
get news from other sources too. If you know of any other collectives or
networks which write news or put out bulletins - please forward this to
them!

The newswire will be launched by anarchist bookfair (october 25th), and the discussion
boards are already online. We host discussion boards for a few
other anarchist groups - AYN, AWN, AF, Class War and a lot of local groups have them -
so if your collective would like boards we would be more
than happy to provide them! We also have split the boards up into Regional
sections to help local networking, and there is a Scotland board - which
thus far no one is using! But it's there so please feel free.

The site's at  http://www.enrager.net and the discussion forums are at
 http://www.enrager.net/forums so please check'em out!

How is this not like indymedia?

09.10.2003 08:36

because it seems very similar. I'm curious

michael meacher

Well it *is* quite different

09.10.2003 09:57

Indymedia is an open-publishing newswire - enrager News will have a moderated newswire which will only post up news of particular interest to anti-capitalists, and people involved in grassroots struggles. I.e. there will be no conspiracy theories etc.

Also a large number of community and anarchist newsletters/papers/magazines will have their news posted directly to the wire, which IMC doesn't get.

But there's a lot more to enrager than the newswire - it's aiming to be an online resource *and* community for the libertarian movement, with it discussion boards, hosted websites, as well as lots of easy-to-understand information about anti-capitalist ideas, and a big radical history section, as well as listings of britain-based groups.

Enrager will also be used as a fundraising tool to raise money for political prisoners, strikes and other things.

We hope people will get involved!
Like the post above says, the forums are now live at  http://enrager.net/forums

Enrager.net is...

09.10.2003 10:55

Different to IMC because it is much more like Infoshop.org in America's newswire. Which you'll concede is different to IMC in the US....

"Well it *is* quite different....i.e. there will be no conspiracy theories etc."

Firstly perhaps you should point out the conspiracy theories on here after making a stament like that ! Then maybe you can tell me who decides what a conspiracy theory is...

Whilst I initialy though your first article may have been a good idea, this second article (saying the same as the first article), has raised some doubts as you appear to be poaching. I realise that you obviously need to advertise your "newswire" but you must admit it looks a bit iffy - especially when your insinuations undermine this newswire in the process.

hmmm

09.10.2003 11:59

I think you will find that IMC is a newswire developed to try and challenege reliance on the main stream media. Therefor it has a different set of priorities to enrager which is a tool for the anti-authoritarian community in Britain. (Which currently has hardly any online space to call its own). IMC is not an anarchist website, it doesnt aim to build communication between anarchists in the UK. It is here for news.

What i find interesting is instead of encouraging DIY projects people are always intent on putting them down and relying on the well established projects such as IMC.

Fuck that. Lets encourage everyone to set up their own newswire for themselves!

It looks like you are using proprietry software rather than open source- not very anarchist is it?

Why any anarchist would want to hand over their e-mail address to some unkown third party remains a little bit of a mystery to me...

From the post it also seems that you are setting this up to duplicate the role of indymedia in the belief that you can do it better.

you've got me fucking enraged anyways

me

why negative

09.10.2003 15:35

Why is it wrong to have more than one thing if its good? This sounds slightly similar to IndyMedia, but so is anything which involves publishing left-wing stuff. The guy has already explained anyway its different, as its more anarchist stuff and news/organisations, won't have all the conspiracy bullshit crap that ruins indymedia and utterly discredits the left, will have anarchist history, etc.

Yeah

09.10.2003 17:11

Sounds good - look forward to it.

Great stuff- keep it rolling!

Let a thousand indymedias bloom!
Looking forwards particularly to the discussion forums and the theory section..

Response to me:

09.10.2003 20:36

>> "It looks like you are using proprietry software rather than open source- not very anarchist is it?"

Sorry, i didnt know it was up to you to decide what was anarchist and what wasnt. This sentance is mindless bullshit and makes no sense. All the software used to build enrager is free and avalaible on the net. The fact is that enrager is not built by super nerds and uses techonology every one who is no techy can get to grips with. Its the very reliance of people on technology which only a few with trainging can understand which isnt anarchist.

>> "Why any anarchist would want to hand over their e-mail address to some unkown third party remains a little bit of a mystery to me..."

Im sure many like me are finding your attempts toqualify and quantify the term "anarchist" by setting out guidelines for them very lame. If you are such a paranoid wierdo, fuck off and dont use the site. If you are so paranoid in the first place, dont have an email address. Your arguement lacks any kind of logic. If you cant trust other anarchists then go live by yourself in a squatted hut on the scottish highlands.

"From the post it also seems that you are setting this up to duplicate the role of indymedia in the belief that you can do it better. "

It has been said a number of times already, there are differences between IMC and enrager.net newsiwre. Enrager.net is not there to provide up to the minute news. It is there to rpovide analysis for the british anti-authoirtarian movement.

I find it very interesting how you feel so threatened by something no one is forcing you to use. Do me a favour and go get a life.

i suspect another moron!

Strange...

09.10.2003 21:12

Hey all.
I'm quite confused as to why there's such a negative reaction... enrager.net is like someone pointed out supposed to act for britain in a similar way as infoshop.org does is the US.

And it is done almost entirely using open source software, so I don't know why we're being accused of not using it! Half of it's done in postnuke (with PNphpBB) and other bits are done directly in php.

FWIW I was involved in IMC for a while, posting stories and photos, writing a couple of features and editing the newswire... It has always been okay before for other independent media sites to advertise here before... maybe this has been over-done since a couple of people involved may have unwittingly re-posted info about the project.

Apologies if this is the case...

Think about it.....

10.10.2003 14:35

Alexa ref: "Strange..."
Are you suggesting there is a conspiracy here against you ? That sounds like an irrational fear to me. Will you be mentioning that paranoid conspiracy theory on your "newswire"......?

Also, "i suspect a moron" wrote towards the top of these comments: Your definition of Spam is severly lacking in thought of any kind. Whilst I am not Sonic, I would just like to say, your name "i suspect a moron" is severly lacking in kind of imagination of your own, as it as a parody of "I smell a rat".......

Not very bright are you ! Mind you that would follow, marxist, communists, socialists, etc, want the world to change to their way of thinking, and anarchist don't give a toss, they just want it to change, and when a hieraracy replaces to old one, they will want to change that too! Not that it would happen in reality because MI5 would have all their contact detials by the time they got their shit together !

Providence

no conspiracy

10.10.2003 15:59

Providence: no I was not suggesting any kind of conspiracy - I just thought it was strange!

And you have kinda shown yourself up with your ignorance of anarchism... but never mind.

Sour grapes

10.10.2003 16:50

Enrager is shaping up to be an excellent resource for the anarchist, libertarian and anti-authoritarian movement. You know you're doing something worthwhile when the spoilers' start trying to have a go at it. It's always the same when a worthwhile initiative comes along. Sour grapes and scaremongering from the statists and authoritarians. They'd have to register for Enrager which is no doubt pissing them off, so they'll have a pop anonymously on indymedia, or on the Flag boards. Sad isn't it!

Time Bandits

10.10.2003 21:08

I'm no stalanist or authoritarian, more of a marxist if anything. What I was trying to point out is those individuals flaging up Enrager on IMC were a bit thick if anything, in that they hadn't really shown any foresight. For example, they insinuated IMC allowed consiracy theroies on there newswire by saying that was the difference between Enrager and IMC. Burning the brige that carries you over has never been a very bright move... Was this a glimps of their true colours ? And as someone else pointed out, anyone joining Enrager would in effect be giving their email address to the "authority". Why would an anti-authoritorian group allow this when there is alternative sollutions ?

I don't think anyone is saying there should not be other newswires. I'm certainty not. I suggest the critisism (or negativity as some have called is) is more to do with Enragers methods. It's as if they have not thought things through, which reminds me. Appart from desroying the esablishment, what is their manifesto............?
