Statement of the solidarity hunger strikers (Thessaloniki-Greece)

In front of the European Summit which took place in Thessalononiki on the 21th last june, was organised a big demonstration of thousands of people, that ended with 29 persons arrested. At the moment, five of them are still in the prison of Diavata in Thessaloniki and two are in the prison of Avlona.
Since their arrest, the seven demonstrators have suffered abuse by the police, as well as humiliation and insults. They have been deprived of their civil and humanitarian rights, they have been charged for felonies on nothing more than the statements of one sole policeman without the testimony of the defence witnesses and last but not least, evidence such as the photos of Simon Chapman that actually show the police changing his rucksack, as been systematically rejected.
We stand by their side, supporting their hard effort to reach something wich in the so called "Europe of civilians" was supposed to be given- that is justice. We protest against the dangerous and uncontrollable authority of police who arrested people from within the crowd, leaving out of control all their violent instincts, against the district attorney who ordered their precautionary imprisonnement like this, disdaining any proof or elements of defence and against the inquisitor who rejected their applications presenting as his only argument the testimony of the principal policeman. We protest against their
unjustifiable, prolonged detention, that can have no other aim than the exemplary punishment of anyone who is opposed to this"don't think-go buy" system. We protest against the silence of society, who deals with this case as if it had nothing to do with it- even if many come out to speack about "rights" and "democratie".
We, friends and comrades of the prisonners or simply citizens opposed to the democratic fashism of the greek governement, will meat on 31th of october at Kamara (Thessaloniki) at 8am to start a symbolic hunger strike, as a sign of solidarity to the seven and to support the five hungers strikers.
FREEDOM TO THE SEVEN PRISONERS
