GLASGOW ANARCHIST DAYSCHOOL

SATURDAY 13TH DECEMBER 2003

10:00am – 11:00pm
The Annexe, 9a Stewartville St, Partick
www.nocog.org/~autonomy/dayschool.html

A day of discussion, debate, workshops, planning for action, film screenings, and an evening social/benefit with live music and DJs (bring yer own booze). For all anarchists, independent anti-capitalists, anti-authoritarian troublemakers, and for people who want find out more about anarchism.

AK Press bookstall, information stalls, pamphlets, papers, zines, leaflets, posters and general rabble-rousing anarchist propaganda. If you have anything along those lines that you’d like to distribute – bring it along.

The Dayschool starts at 10:00am, and the Sunflower Café will be open until 12 noon, although more veggie and vegan food will be available later in the day.

Organised by Glasgow Autonomous Project and Anarchist Federation.

WORKSHOPS, starting at 11:00am, will include:

Against Prison Slavery - Mark Barnsley
Slavery has NOT been abolished in Britain. Behind high walls and locked doors it still flourishes. Working class people are being forced to toil in poor conditions, beyond the reach of health and safety inspectors, denied even the most basic employment and trade-union rights, and severely punished if they refuse to work. Mark Barnsley, former miscarriage of justice prisoner, leads a talk about on the work of the Campaign Against Prison Slavery.

IWW – Workplace organising
A member of the International Workers of the World will lead a discussion on the famous Wobblies The IWW is a union unlike any other. It is a grassroots, democratic and militant union that seeks to organise ALL workers in ALL industries in ALL countries into 'One Big Union'. Unlike many of the TUC unions, the IWW has no stifling bureaucracy with fat cat salaries that'll do a deal with the boss behind the membership's back and stitch them up.

Refugees – practical solidarity
Hundreds of asylum seekers in Scotland and across the UK are being evicted from their homes and denied any form of housing or support. Now the government has plans to take asylum seeker’s children into care if they do not return to war-torn countries like Afghanistan and occupied Iraq. A campaign is building to resist the evictions, support refugees in Scotland and stop deportations. Find out more, and how you can get involved.

The Glasgow Autonomous Project
GAP is a collective that aims to found an autonomous social centre in Glasgow. Currently they are putting on the kind of events that would be a part of the social centre’s activities. This dayschool is one. They are looking for ideas of what you would like a social centre to be like, and for people to get involved.

Anarchism & the anti-war movement
Faslane Peace Camp has been in existence since 1982 to non-violently oppose the presence of nuclear weapons at Faslane Naval Base on the Clyde, 30 miles from Glasgow. Faslane Peace Campers and anti-military activists discuss their experiences and their perspective on the anti-war movement.

Frock On!
Frock On is a female collective based in Glasgow. It's also a series of projects and adventures over 2003 and beyond. It's about talking, having fun, making new friends, subverting, resisting, doing it yourself, gossiping/networking, respecting, listening, dancing, eating, rioting, drinking, laughing, relaxing, empowering ourselves and others, clothes swapping, cycling, supporting our music, creating, growing, expressing ourselves, challenging ourselves, learning, scheming, giggling, planning, cups of tea, taking care of ourselves, gaining confidence and self esteem, finding our voices and keeping it real.

May 2004
Discussing plans for a month of class struggle oriented activities for the month of May 2004. The reclaimed May Day is now an annual event. May 1st doesn’t fall on a “working” day for the next three years. But can we build on May Day, using it to launch an annual month of activity?

FILMS
Films, from Camcorder Guerrillas and others, will be shown throughout the day. Details will appear on the website as they are confirmed.

EVENING SOCIAL
Live music and DJs from 7pm until closing time at 11pm. Again, details will be on the website. Bring yer own booze and yer dancing shoes.

Costs
Last year’s Dayschool was at the Kinning Park Complex. The Annexe was chosen for this year’s Dayschool as it has better facilities and disabled access. Unfortunately this has meant higher costs, so a suggested donation of £2.00 unwaged and £4.00 waged is requested. Of course, if you have no money, you have no money, but if you can spare a bit more it would certainly help.
