What we have in the UK is a dictatorship of the neoliberal elite. This is the least democratic country in Europe, with a virtually unelected president and ridiculous centralised un-representative form of governance. Tacked on top is a desire to be a colonial power, wielding military might on the behest of a frankly psychotic prime-minister. If you wonder why people have lost confidence in 'politics', it is because we have no power, and your policies actually increase the barrier to grassroots participation in governance. You need to radically de-centralise power, encourage ecologically sound policies, put a brake - at the very least - on the neoliberal form of capitalism currently being rolled out across the world, and roll back the increasing powers of the proto-police state.

For the number one 'national issue', I put the betrayal of the values of the Labour Party by Blair and his circle etc. etc.
I noted too since the government had singularly failed to take any notice of public opinion on Iraq, GM foods, etc. etc. they could really think that any of us would take this "Big Conversation" exercise seriously
