This weekend is open to anyone interested in learning about Gaelic language and
culture. Participants can choose two classes to take part in over the weekend –
one in the mornings and one in the afternoons. Alternatively, you may want to
choose one subject and stick to it all day. Registration will be from 9.30am on
Saturday morning and classes will take place from 10am – 1pm and 2-4pm both
days. The weekend will finish with an informal ceilidh for participants from
7-11pm in the cabaret bar at the Pleasance.
What’s on offer?
 Gaelic language for absolute beginners
This class is intended for people with no previous knowledge of the language.
 Gaelic language for people who “know a little”
You already have enough Gaelic to have a simple conversation.
 Gaelic Song
Anyone can come along to the singing class whether you are a Gaelic speaker or
not.
 Tin Whistle
This class is for beginner – intermediate tin whistle. You will have to bring
your own tin whistle in the key of D. These are widely available from music
shops and cost around £3.
 Scottish Step Dance
Always great fun! Please wear hard soled shoes if you can for this percussive
dance workshop.
Who are the tutors?
We have an excellent team of tutors, including: Douglas Beck, Mairi Kidd, Mark
Neilly, Rachel Newton and Dòmhnall Uilleam Stiùbhart. They are all Gaelic
speakers, so even if you choose not to take a language class you will definitely
leave with a few words or phrases by the end of the weekend!
How much does it cost?
The bargain price of £15 for the whole weekend if you are a student!!!
If you are not a student, the weekend is still very reasonable at £35.
This includes all classes and entry to the ceilidh on Sunday evening.
How do I apply?
