state of the world "report to God"

jack kybird | 10.12.2003 02:16 | Analysis | World

It’s a long cathartic post for me to vent my feelings about the state of the world and the direction it is going.
And I thank you for the opportunity to voice them on this forum.

It’s a long cathartic post for me to vent my feelings about the state of the world and the direction it is going.

It seems that Mr. Blair has moved a long way from what I thought were core values in England.
Things like a right to trial by jury for everyone charged with any crime. To me that means people accused of terrorism as well.

It seems acceptable military practice now to shoot up terrorist and any civilians that happen to be around. It seems hypocritical to me for Americans and people who support them to complain about things like 9/11 when Americans have been killing millions of people and overthrown democratic governments for generations now.

It seems a tragedy that both Mr. bush and bin laden proclaim that god is on their side when science generally debunks believe in gods.
Even more scary is that Mr. Blair says he believes in god, but I see no evidence of Christian values in what Mr. bush and Blair are doing.
To my mind their whole approach to the war is doing bin ladens work for him.
I cant resist making the sarcastic comment that it was America that funded him to the tune of 3 billion dollars and trained him as well (as I recall I think it was to help him shoot down russian helicopters in Afghanistan.)
That’s what I call your chickens come home to roost.

I think the war on terrorism is likely to last for generations and will only be won by science education, based on the assumption that under this influence 98% of the Muslim people will stop going to their places of worship. It is not an unreasonable assumption when you consider that only 2% of Christians in the UK do.

I hope at the end of the day people will be able to hang on to the values expressed in the New Testament.
The messages I got were
Look to yourself for first courses of things (I get that from the splinter in the eye story)
Help people if you can (Jesus Christ was doing that all the time)
Don’t judge peoples morals, I get that from the adulterous women saved from being stoned.
By Jesus suggesting that someone who has not sinned throw the first stone.

Then there are some commandments about not killing people or stealing from them.
I think the New Testament emphasizes humility and simplicity. For example entering the city on a donkey.
But in reality what do we see in churches pomp and ceremony of an establishment of priest purporting to represent god.

There are big questions of life like why are we here and I suppose it is a hard pill to swallow to see ourselves as a product of a big bang and probably not very significant. Even though we represent the state of the art in animal development on earth.

To my mind the sooner people stop believing in gods the better
Perhaps when we start blaming ourselves for our own condition we can do something about it
And instead of waiting for gods to make things better we should do it.

To me making things better at a global level starts with recognition and compliance of international law
(Bush does not) having a fair world trade and following the will of the United Nations.
At the moment what we have is America as a loose cannon with a large population who seem ignorant of what America has been and is doing to people around the world.
It seems to me that since the end of the cold war America is the greatest danger to human right and the environment in the world.
I am not keen on the world evil because I belief Mr. bush and Blair are sincere in their beliefs and so is bin laden.
Sadly the Pandora’s box that Mr. bush has opened will not be closed when he is gone and by the end of it religion will be no more then a category under myths and legends.
Ironic if world history in the future concludes that Mr. bush was responsible for the destruction of the Christian religion along with the rest.

I saw on the news the Moscow bombing and wondered if any Russian thought it a little strange that the so-called terrorist is women now. The answer is that most of the men are dead. It is a similar answer to why most of the African wars are fought by children. The answer most of the adults are dead.

It’s a real dilemma who to vote for. But no way am I voting for Mr. Blair or New labour
I lived through the conservative government and voted new labour to get rid of them.
I will be voting lib Dem. on the basis that they are probably the least likely to make things worse.

Broadly speaking I am coming from the same direction as Michael Moore
www.michaelmoore.com so I do not feel myself alone.
