SOCIAL CENTRE up and running! read on...

We have occupied a really nice building in Kentish Town. The address is 93 fortess road, London NW5 - about 2 mins walk from kentish town tube. We have already been given eviction papers and a court date for January 21st. This isn't as bad as it may seem as we will be having two events there on January 10th and 17th.

The 10th (this saturday) will start at 6pm and will be to promote the idea of social centres, perhaps a discussion, a kitchen will be set-up doing veggie burgers and also a coffee machine. There will also be an anti-copyright cinema showing films and a small-ish sound system. Bring info for the info stall. This event will be to finance and organise for another location. We also intend to formulate a collective, open to all, to give us a permamenet presence as a social centre even without a building. Everyone is welcomed to participate.

On January 17th, there will be an evening event on NO BORDERS, with films, a round table discussion with migrant groups and a discussion of the action(s) on January 31st as part of the Europe wide day of action against borders. Food will hopefully be provided by a somalian refugee family (all proceeds going to them), there will also be music and a late bar.

We will be in the building all week until January 20th, so please pass this invitation on. The WOMBLES meeting will likely be held at the space for the following two tuesdays at 7.00pm.

Cheers and hope to see you there

Re: "On January 17th, there will be an evening event on NO BORDERS, with films, a round table discussion with migrant groups and a discussion of the action(s)"

>>> If you haven't already, perhaps you might want to invite key members of the coalition of groups calling for the repeal of Section 55 of the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum
Act 2002. This inhumane measure has left thousands of asylum seekers effectively destitute because of the timing of their application (they are given just 3 days to apply once they first entre the country, which for persons who have fled war-torn regions and/or undertaken harrowing journeys and who have entered a new country in which they don't understand the language/procedures that may seem staright forward to the civilian population, is a huge omission of responsibility on the part of the British state).
The repeal of Section 55 (appeals for which are currently going through the courts) is supported by the following organisations:
Signed and supported by:
The Refugee Council; Shelter; Liberty; Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants; Eritrean Women's Group; French Speaking African Global Congress; Crossroads Coalition for Justice for Asylum Seekers; National Assembly Against Racism; Women of Colour in the Global Women's Strike; Operation Black Vote; National Black Alliance; Society of Black Lawyers; The Salvation Army; Jesuit Refugee Service; Refugee Arrivals Project; The 1990 Trust; Black Londoners Forum; Baptist Union; North Kensington Law Centre; The Peepul Centre; Birmingham Racial Attacks Monitoring Unit; Liverpool 8 Law Centre; National Black Students Alliance.

claiming "No Borders" is a vacuous sweeping statement of feeble intellectual weight. The vast majority of people in the UK would never support it ... it might even strethen hostility to Asylum seekers. That would make repeal of such things as section-55 almost impossible.

Once again, idealistic anarchos who bite off more than they can chew, expousing ideas that only isolate themselves further and digging deeper holes for themselves... I dread to think what mess we'dd be in if we left all the decisions down to them

Reality Check-Mate

idealist anarchos???

did you actually read the list of organisations involved in this or did you get no further than the title??

the refugee council, the baptists..

hardly known for their ooh so outrageous anarchy.
