This year the BNP will be attempting to stand candidates in the Euro and
local elections and we need to mobilise and work against this.

The next scheduled meeting of MCARF (Merseyside Coalition Against
Racism & Fascism) takes place on Saturday 10th January 10.a.m. CASA
Hope Streeet Liverpool.

All people opposed to racism and fascism are welcome to attend. This

Is leafletting for the dodgy labourites up here really a tactic which us working class should support?

I oppose the BNP - but NO WAY could i vote for New Labour

The best way to oppose the BNP is to offer a viable alternative to the BNP - if all your going to do is say 'vote labour not BNP' i predict a BNP seat here within 2 or 3 years.

They may well sieze a european seat this year.

Alternative to New Labour

19.01.2004 18:26

It is difficult for people to consider voting New Labour in opposition to the BNP, because there is a certain amount of pandering to a racist agenda in Britain. Simply put, a great deal of publicity about asylum seekers blocks out coverage on Foundation hospitals, student fees and the war in Iraq.

Unfortunately, the BNP are not led by idiots. Nick Griffin is a calculated and organised campaigner (as well as a convicted racist) and has been planning his Euro campaign in the NW for the past two years. They tried to stand at least one candidate in every area that had local elections last year, simply to generate any kind of coverage.

A protest vote of 8 to 9% in the NW region would see the BNP elected if they finish as the 4th largest political party. Votes for Labour, the Tories (the advice from the chair of the commission for racial equality) and Lib Dems will not be entirely wasted but my point is that it is highly unlikely for the 5th party to win a seat (but not impossible).

We think that the Greens will finish ahead of the BNP because of our principled stand on the war, and because we have a good regional base with councillors in Manchester and Lancaster. Take a look at the polls a week before the election, and if you can't support the Greens on our policies, then you still might want to use your vote tactically to keep out the BNP.

For those that are interested, go to  http://www.cix.co.uk/~broadway/pr95/ and start putting figures into the D'Hondt calculator for nine seats available in 2004. The last Euro results might also be a useful start. Greens got 56,000 votes, just 1.5% short for the ten seats that were up for election back then.
