Unlike the Socialist Alliance which was constructed out of existing left wing organisations, the new coalition will arise more organically from the movement - from all quarters their is pressure for a convincing mass party alternative to Labour - from the trade union movement, ordinary people etc. - at every stop-the-war meeting people have raised the issue of the need for an alternative.

As to the point about the white, middle aged men I agree with you - it was a point I raised with the organiser - I personally thought that they should have asked a young attactive arab woman like myself to speak, but Galloway is a fiery speaker and these meetings have drawn hundreds across the country. (As to John Marek - I can't stand the guy!)

But despite high profile supporters like George Monbiot, Yvonne Ridley (Prisoner of the Taliban), Ken Loach, Alex Cox, and Trade Union leaders like Mark Serwotka and Bob Crow and all the other "left wing celebs" who will probably jump aboard, if the coalition will suceed it will be have to be built from below at the grassroots. . .

Confrontational party politics is dead, as is the system that supports it. Any attempt to revive it will just be laughed at by those in power. It's time to ignore them and DIY !
