Another communication is possible!

Civil society voices at the World Social Forum 2004 ( http://www.wsfindia.org/) took to the airwaves today from Mumbai, India, with the message "Another communication is possible!"

Community broadcasters from all continents of the world are collaborating on the joint broadcast organised by the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC -  http://www.amarc.org/) from January the 16th to the 21st.

They include producers from Radio Lora (Switzerland), Radio Tierra (Chile), Simbani Africa News Service, AmmanNet (Jordan), Sri Lankan Association of Community Broadcasters, Mass Line Media (Bangladesh), Sheffield Live! (UK), Community Broadcasting Association of Australia, Radio Sagarmatha and Radio Lumbini (Nepal) and Voices (India).

The World Social Forum 2004 has adopted "media, culture and knowledge" as one of its nine core themes highlighted in conferences, practical workshops and cultural events.

Alongside the five day broadcast, the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC) and other civil society organisations are holding a conference at the World Social Forum to showcase civil society media, information and communications initiatives.

The conference will reflect on the results of civil society involvement in the recent World Summit on the Information Society and consider strategies for strengthening the movement for communication rights.

"Whose Information Society? Communication Rights and Media Alternatives" will be held at the World Social Forum on 20 January 2004, from 9.00 - 12.00am in Mumbai, India. It has been organised by AMARC in cooperation with Association for Progressive Communications (APC), Agencia Latinoamericana de Informacion (ALAI), Isis International and others.

La société civile du monde, réunie à Mumbai, en Inde à l'occasion du Forum Social Mondial 2004 ( http://www.wsfindia.org/), a pris d'assault les ondes aujourd'hui afin de transmettre le message : "Une autre communication est possible!"

Les journalistes des radios communautaires des quatre coins du monde collaborent à une émission collective en direct coordonnée par l'Association mondiale des radiodiffuseurs communautaires, AMARC ( http://www.amarc.org/), du 16 au 21 janvier.

L'équipe de l'émission inclut les producteurs et journalistes de la Radio Lora (Suisse), la Radio Tierra (Chile), l'Agence Africaine de nouvelles Simbani, AmmanNet (Jordan), l'Association des radiodiffuseurs communautaires du Sri Lanka, Mass Line Media (Bangladesh), Sheffield Live! (RU), l'Association des radiodiffuseurs communautaires de l'Australie, la Radio Sagarmatha et la Radio Lumbini (Népal) et Voices (Inde).

Le Forum Social Mondial 2004 a adopté le thème "médias, culture et savoir" comme un des thèmes centraux autour desquels se dérouleront les différentes conférences, ateliers pratiques et activités culturelles pendant le Forum.

En plus des cinq journées d'émission, l'Association mondiale des radiodiffuseurs communautaires, AMARC, en coopération avec d'autres organisations sociales, organisent une conférence qui portera sur le rôle des médias de la société civile ainsi que sur les initiatives d'information et des communications alternatives.

Les participants discuteront des résultats de la participation de la société civile au récent Sommet Mondial de la Société de l'information et recueilleront des recommandations afin de planifier les stratégies qui contribueront à la consolidation du droit à la communication.

La conférence "La société de l'information pour qui? Le droit à la communication et les médias alternatifs" aura lieu lors du Forum Social Mondial le 20 janvier 2004, de 9.00h à 12.00h à Mumbai en Inde.

La conférence est organisée par l'AMARC en collaboration avec l'APC (Association pour la communication progressiste), l'Agence Latino-américaine d'information (ALAI) et Isis International.

La sociedad civil reunida en el Foro Social Mundial 2004 ( http://www.wsfindia.org/) en Mumbai, India, embistió las ondas radiales hoy con el mensaje "¡Otra comunicación es posible!"

Periodistas de radios comunitarias de todo el mundo colaboran en un esfuerzo conjunto para producir una emisión coordinada por la Asociación Mundial de Radios Comunitarias, AMARC ( http://www.amarc.org/) desde la sede del FSM del 16 al 21 de enero.

El equipo de transmisión incluye productores y periodistas de Radio Lora (Suiza), Radio Tierra (Chile), Simbani Africa News Service, AmmanNet (Jordán), Sri Lankan Associatonion of Community Broadcasters, Mass Line Media (Bangladesh), Sheffield Live! (RU), Community Broadcasting Association of Australia, Radio Sagarmatha y Radio Lumbini (Nepal) y
Voices (India).

El Foro Social Mundial 2004 ha adoptado el tema "Medios de Comunicación, Cultura y Conocimiento" como uno de los nueve temas centrales que serán abordados en las diversas conferencias, talleres prácticos y eventos culturales.

Además de los cinco días de transmisión, la Asociación Mundial de Radios Comunitarias, AMARC, y otras organizaciones sociales llevarán a cabo una conferencia que pondrá en relieve la importancia de los medios de comunicación de la sociedad civil así como de las iniciativas de información y comunicación alternativas.

La conferencia evaluará los resultados de la participación de la sociedad civil en la reciente Cumbre Mundial de la Sociedad de la Información en Ginebra además de recoger recomendaciones y planear estrategias para el fortalecimiento del Derecho a la Comunicación.

La Conferencia "¿Sociedad de la Información para Quién? El Derecho a la Comunicación y los Medios Alternativos" tendrá lugar durante el Foro Social Mundial el 20 de Enero del 2004, de las 9.00am a las 12.00pm en Mumbai, India.

La conferencia ha sido organizada por AMARC con el apoyo de la Asociación para el Progreso de las Comunicaciones (APC), la Agencia Latinoamericana de Información (ALAI) y Isis International.
