Another Social Centre to open this Friday in Kentish Town!
Occupied Social Centre/Wombles | 04.03.2004 12:28 | Free Spaces
Barricades and Scaffold do not make a social centre!
- Thats why we have decided to expand the social centres project beyond the walls of 93 Fortess Road, and have occupied number 156 - 156 Fortess Road. A truly amazing space, the story is the same as 93 Fortess Road - disused, empty and left in neglect. Since two weeks now we have been cleaning, scrubbing, mopping and dusting ready for the opening night of a new social centre project. As we keep up the resistance at 93 Fortess Road (the barricades are still up!), we continue our common project and have a list of weekend events. We hope, even more now, that people which had enjoyed, participated and enageged with 93 Fortess Road will support this new initiative. Here are the list of events:
Friday March 5th
5pm: Opening afternoon
>>Full functioning cafe serving the most liberated coffee from the Zapatistas
8.00pm: Anti-Copyright Cinema continues!
>>Pizzeria will be up and running all night - choose your own toppings!

Simon Chapman (wombles/occupied social centre) talks about the events of june, last year when he was arrested, beatened up and fitted-up by greek police during a demonstration in Thessaloniki, Greece. He talks about his experiences, spending 6 months in Greek jail and 54 days on hunger strike with 4 other comrades.
Guy Smallman (NUJ freelance photograper) was shot in the leg by swiss police during the demonstrations in Geneva against the G8. He speaks also about Martin Shaw, an activist living in Spain who abseiled down the Aubonne Bridge during the same week of protests, only to have his safety rope cut by police and falling causing severe damage to his back and legs.
These talks will be followed by films and questions and answers.
