New Website for 10 Years Of London Critical Mass!

[PLEASE SPREAD THIS AROUND]

To celebrate 10 years of Critical Mass in April 2004, the Critical Mas London website has been re-designed and brought up to date. Now with its own domain name you can find out all about CM London at  http://www.criticalmasslondon.org.uk. Info for new riders, old ride reports, photos and more can be found at the website.

Of course we welcome people to submit content (photos, articles, reports, anything!), via the CM London discussion list (see website for details!).

The 10th Anniversary Critical Mass Ride takes place on Friday April 30th 2004, meeting 6pm under Waterloo Bridge, South Bank for celebrations. Bring cake, drinks, food, party atmosphere, music, lights and energy!

Hope to see you on the ride,
Have fun!

CM London webteam.

10 years

As someone who was involved in the beginning with Critical Mass (but is no longer) I would like someone to tell me what they think the group has achieved in the last ten years. (I'd be grateful if the answer didn't include the phrase "raising awareness")

Not what the web site says

15.04.2004 12:44

that's surprising as their web-site states their aims as being:

* To raise the profile of cycling in towns and cities,
* Campaigning for better provision for cyclists,
* Creating a car-free space in the centre of our cities,
* To raise awareness about pollution and other problems caused by cars,
* Getting our own back at the motorists,
* To demonstrate opposition to car culture,
* To cause disruption,
* To sell copies of Socialist Worker
* To show off your new bike,
* To ogle other people's bikes,
* To feel good about being safe on a bike on roads which are usually dangerous,
* To feel reassured that there are hundreds of other active cyclists,
* To create a vision and experience of a possible future,

Christ Jody - lighten up, CM is a Laugh - not everyone subscribes to your last post and as for being involved at the beginning, why not come along for the 10th anniversary ride. You might surprise yourself and actually enjoy it - you may even 'have a laugh!'

jody - aims of cm

As stated on website, not like your stupid out of context post (wtf is it with wierdos on IMCUK?):

:: What Are The Aims Of CM?
There is no single aim of CM, although there is a shared wish to see less car-dominated cities and more people cycling. There are as many aims of CM as there are participants. Each individual comes there with his or her own idea of what it's about, and the sum of this makes up the mass. Some of the aims may be:

* To raise the profile of cycling in towns and cities,
* Campaigning for better provision for cyclists,
* Creating a car-free space in the centre of our cities,
* To raise awareness about pollution and other problems caused by cars,
* Having fun,
* Meeting friends,
* Getting our own back at the motorists,
* To demonstrate opposition to car culture,
* To meet that cool person you met last month,
* To cause disruption,
* To meet new friends,
* To sell copies of Socialist Worker (if you are coming for this - please don't! We don't want you),
* To show off your new bike,
* To ogle other people's bikes,
* To feel good about being safe on a bike on roads which are usually dangerous,
* To feel reassured that there are hundreds of other active cyclists,
* To create a vision and experience of a possible future,
* To meet friends and go for a beer later.

Some things may feature more strongly than others, but any combination of the aims above and lots of others can be reason enough for anyone to come to CM.
