Yeah Sure

Yeah sure, that "demo" will happen.

You must be mad if you think we are going to fall for your disinformation. Other posts have shown you up for the spooks that you are.

Go back to your arms dealing paymasters and tell them you failed

This event is announced on the front page of indymedia UK - so
has been checked by them and is correct. This also means the
website  http://www.dsei.org is genuine - always check there in
case of doubt.

And ask yourself : why would spearhead organsise an event against
themselves ??? Calling for people to come to your offices for
MAYDAY is kinda risky, ain't it ?

There has been questions raised about the DSEI.ORG website over the last few weeks. How did Indymedia go about "checking" that this was genuine ?

Chloe

Perhaps...

15.04.2004 11:48

...they knew it was genuine because it's being run and organised by similar (mostly the same) people who organised the DSEi 2003 protest, who are known personally by indymedia people.

The reason questions have been raised is because everytime DSei information is posted up here someone who is either a cop or security working for spearhead has come on here and tried to discredit the campaign, or say that the protest isn't going to appen etc etc. When you think about it, it's a pretty obvious ploy from the authorities to stop people turning up to these protests.

Question everything, stir up distrust, let progressive groups know they have been infiltrated so no-one ever wants to get involved with anything. The state initiated the original cointelpro ops because they were really scared. Bob Munton and his MI5 buddies must be sh*tting themselves. Even if this is spooks organising this, we shiould all go to f*ck up their plans (it isn't organised by MI5 by the way).

Yes but

15.04.2004 12:25

I'm amazed at the idea that Spearhead has people who would spend their time monitoring and responding to postings on a minority interest site like Indy Media. In reality there is nothing we are going to do that will have any effect on arms fairs like DSEI. There is too much money at stake.

I have no idea if the people organising the DSEI.org site are genuine or not but I am sure I will not be attending this demo (if there is one) for two reasons:

1. they are part of some security (police ?) operation in which case the whole day is a set up designed to gather information on anti-DSEI activists and probably set a few up with planted drugs etc

2. they are the people who organised the protests at DSEI last year, in which case I don't want anything to do with them again as they messed up badly and didn't achieve anything for the week of the death fair beyond some shouting at construction workers who were building a hotel alongside the Excel Centre

Chloe

ahem!

15.04.2004 13:16

The cost of policing last DSEi was greater than that of the Bush visit, and people still managed to get into the arms fair and disrupt it in a great number of ways. Just do a search for DSEi on Indymedia to see some of the actions that took place.

Obviously there are likely to be cops at the DSEi mayday action, some of whom will probably be gathering info on activists, but that's nothing new, and doesn't put people off. If you're worried about that then mask up.

You might be amazed that Spearhead would bother with posting here, but remember that there are bored people at work in offices all over the country. Some of them work at Spearhead or some security firm or the police force.

For peats sake, lets get some way of signing messages on IMC

15.04.2004 14:33

This is truely pathetic. Obviously there is somebody trying to stir up confusion and distrust. It's not exactly a new tactic and we know well that groups such have Campaigns Against The Arms Trade have been targeted by scum corporations like BAe in the past. There is no doubt a campaign against Disarn DSEi and there is also no doubt that a campaign such as Dismarm DSEi is a considerable threat to the continued existance of DSEi itself as well as the arms industry in the UK and their fucking politician friends who make it all possible. There has been a long history of campaigns against arms trades in this country and they have been very sucessful. DSEi is not the first to be targeted and it almost certainly will be forced to shut down if the campaign against it persists.

So what we have on Indymedia is a classic case of disinformation and frankly it is so blatent that it beggs the question, why are people falling for it? It seems to me that we can go a long way to solving this problem by providing posters on Indymedia with a way of registering and signing their posts so readers can be more certain of the validity. At it's simplist level this counld be nothing more that an email confirmation feature as used by many Indymedia sites already. This would mean that people could if they wished put an email to their post and if they clicked a confirm email button, they would received a confirmation email to check that they were the actual user of that address and the article would indicate that the email address had been validated.

Another option would be the use of PGP signed messages. This has been suggested before but is probably of limited use. Most people do not check signatures and it would fall on indymedia admin to check signatures and remove fakes which would simply add to the already significant work load undertaken by the volunteers who do admin.

Another option would be an optional poster registration system. This is also used by some indymedia sites already and has been discussed by IMC tech etc a couple of times. If there was interest from indymedia users and a demonstratable reason to do this, it might well happen.

Until some system is put in place, this confusion will continue.

Ben

or...

... you could just read  http://www.dsei.org - couldnt be simpler than that.

Just take action and Fuck Shit Up!

16.04.2004 11:04

Its nothing we've not seen before - adopt a common sense security culture, ignore smears, don't repeat them; or you'll get lost in the La-La land of the leftist ghetto.
Clarity, simplicity and determination, stick to the facts, fuck the bullshit.

This smear campaign means Spearhead, BAe & the rest of those bastards feel threatened.

It sounds cheesy, but we are winning the PR battle- don't forget that.

fuck the state!
