Lynndie England comix (by Latuff)

Copyright-free artwork by Brazilian cartoonist Latuff, on behalf of brave Iraqi people and their struggle against foreigner occupation.

Land of the FREAK
Land of the FREAK

"Well, I mean, they [the photos] were for psy-op reasons," she said "And the reasons worked. I mean, so to us, we were doing our job, which meant we were doing what we were told, and the outcome was what they wanted. They'd come back and they'd look at the pictures, and they'd state, 'Oh, that's a good tactic, keep it up. That's working. This is working. Keep doing it. It's getting what we need.'"

(U.S. Army Pfc. Lynndie England, one of the most notorious faces in the US abuse of prisoners in Iraq.)

the new hitler?

I think that this cartoon is excessive and in bad taste. I also don't think that this girl lyndie england , who was just responding to the situation of being a soldier whith the freedom to mistreat other human beings without any legal constraints in the way 50 per cent of people would deserves to be presented like the new hitler

Where do you get off defending this evil piece of shit?
Some people will defend anyone famously accused of a crime: even Myra Hindley was a "victim" in the eyes of some useful idiots.
Get a fucking clue pal.

No one is "evil". They have been pushed that way through their relationships/upbringing/society. Obviously what she did was despicable, and I feel complete disgust for her actions, but rehabilitation is more important than punishment. It is the American Army that are more responsible, and the de-humanisation of the soldiers. But the underlying factor in this is WAR.

Evil

The 1970s idea that society is somehow to blame for all manifestations of human behaviour does not tally with my own experience in social work.

I've known kids who had difficult home lives, rotten parents, the lot, and have risen above it to become normal, productive, happy people. I've also known people who were raised in loving families, with all the luck and good experiences that life can offer, yet continue to enjoy being cruel in the worst ways.

I don't know this woman from the Abu Ghraib jail incident, but I've known people accused of worse crimes. It always amazed me how many people on the periphery would try to defend them, portray them as victims, somehow not responsible for what they did, in need of rehab, etc., without bothering to get to know the accused, and make an informed decision on who was the real victim.

Some people are just born that way. Rehabilitation is not the answer for everyone. Punishment, deterrent or removing them from society is sometimes the only way.

bullshit

"Some people are just born that way".

You are falling into the right-wing christian trap if you believe that. Just because people live in nice houses and upper-class families, doesn't mean they will be nice does it. And some of the most down-to-earth people have come from poverty etc.

But it IS to do with their social relations etc. It is also to do with their relation to production, and how they are affected by the flow of money.

Evidence?

20.05.2004 16:54

I never said it's anything to do with nice houses and social class. Please read my reply again.

Are you thinking of offering any evidence for your now discredited theory? Or do you plan to simply keep on repeating your dogma?

You said that you have known kids from well-to-do families who are cruel...so I countered that by saying that simply coming from a 'well-to-do' family doesn't we you WON'T be cruel...

So you think that some kids are born "cruel". What evidence do you have to support that? There are a variety of things that make someone who they are. Relationships with people, such as parents, teachers and other children has a large part to play in it. Look at Hitler. Many people think he was "evil". When in fact it was his relationships with people and the economic sphere of life that turned him into a fervent anti-semite...If you want me to go into detail on Hitler's life I will, but I don't want to talk about him if I don't have to!

Copy and paste time, I guess.

"You said that you have known kids from well-to-do families who are cruel...so I countered that by saying that simply coming from a 'well-to-do' family doesn't we you WON'T be cruel."

Wrong. Read it again. I wrote:
'I've also known people who were raised in loving families, with all the luck and good experiences that life can offer, yet continue to enjoy being cruel in the worst ways.'

See? Nothing to do with class. You don't need to be "well-to-do" to have a loving family, good luck, and good experiences. Sounds like I'm talking to a middle-class liberal, who can't conceive of a working-class family with a pleasant life. Ah well.

"So you think that some kids are born "cruel". What evidence do you have to support that?"

Well, how about the evidence of my own experience, as I cited above? Do I really need to paste all that in too?

"There are a variety of things that make someone who they are. Relationships with people, such as parents, teachers and other children has a large part to play in it."

Yes, that's perfectly reasonable. But it's not what you said originally. You said:
" No one is "evil". They have been pushed that way through their relationships/upbringing/society."

So were you exaggerating when you wrote that, or have you changed your mind?

I stand by my idea that "no one is evil". I meant this to mean that no-one is naturally or born evil. I believe become can become evil, but that is only through their life that they can turn evil...

Bad Taste

21.05.2004 00:01

I think this cartoon is in excessivly bad taste. Political cartoons are at their best when they discuss the truth of a matter but exaggerate details or create visual analogies. This cartoon flat out lies about what happened. I haven't heard and difinitive evidence that suggests Lyndie England sodomized dogs at home or that Runsfeld himself offered her a job because of it or that he congratulated her for torturing prisoners. In fact Rumsfeld has expressed anger over what happened, he never offered her a job for being a sadist and, as far as we know, she never sodomized farm animals. While the cdartoon was funny, Mr. Latuff's ability to show us the truth in a humorous light has failed. I think it's in his best interest to seek a new line of work.

Rumsfeld gets angry when people are mean

21.05.2004 08:37

Rumsfeld expresses his anger
Rumsfeld expresses his anger

Here's Donald Rumsfeld in action earlier, expressing anger over the nerve gassing of 5,000 civilians in Halabja. In fact he was so angry, he punished Saddam by restoring full diplomatic relations against the advice of the US State Dept and the UN. Then he supplied Saddam with weapons and intelligence, so Saddam's boys could sodomize, torture and kill his prisoners, blazing the trail for Miss England and her pals in years to come.

Etch that on her tombstone: "Lynndie England, RIP: she was never photographed sodomizing farm animals."

come on

21.05.2004 15:27

and yet every day in the UK there are hundreds of rapes, but noone makes out the rapists to be so completely evil. oh no, they just got confused messages.

thirty plus US soldiers are being investigated over Abu Ghraib. only three are women. England, while being a sadistic bitch, is hardly the worst of them - from what I gather the male soldiers used her as a fuckhole just as they used the prisoners. She didnt rape anybody. So how about a cartoon of one of the male guards fucking a dog? It's much more likely, statistically. How about a cartoon of a woman being raped by several footballers? Quite common these days it seems.

Yes she's a sadistic shit. She was caught on camera pointing and laughing. She was even caught holding a leash. But why all the attention for her while the rapists and murderers are quietly ignored? There is no doubt that male and female and child prisoners are being raped, and killed, and on camera, but not by Lyndie England.

But I wouldnt want to ruin anyones view of the heroic male soldier... It must be her fault, it must be!

get some perspective

Quite right.

21.05.2004 16:12

Time for some more cartoons showing the rest of the jarheads fucking each other, and raping the adult and child prisoners too. Equal ops. Get on it, Latuff.
