spam?

while i appreciate activist art / campaign materials being posted here on indymedia. I wonder at what point does it become spam? given that so many of these pics are posted by this person...

pete

it's more like spam

IMF...

don't want to discourage you or be a negative bastard in any way but why don't you get out and put some art on the streets rather than every 5 minutes to indymedia.

On the bright side (for your part) then the pictures wont be going up so often in a couple of months once the good old British immigration service decides my wife and son are good enough to be citizens of the grand old UK. Then they'll be with me again and I wont have so much time on my hands. I'm not that interested in a website as the pix are designed to be sent and if I post them here which I always would, (unless specifically asked not to) then I may as well maintain those links. They are also there to be hacked by others - advertize my willingness to get involved with helping groups who need graphics stuff etc etc. so I advertize a subversive service if you like. As for being the only person well yes on those links I am, although there are plenty of others out there doing a similar thing. Oh yeah and I'm not IMF - IMF is a label, anything / anybody can be the IMF, it is just a label which aims to undermine the other IMF, I am Adam and LOLA is Lots of Love Adam

On the streets

01.06.2004 17:40

yeah well been on the streets with graffiti, not enough admittedly but then it doesn't work does it! 90% off the British Public were against the war with the biggest demonstration in the UK history but did it work??? No! Individual acts of graffiti do make an impact on passers by for sure and they are powerful, but it doesn't seem to be sufficient to generate the effect we are looking for. I don't know how to do that - but I think we should recognize that more is needed, but also of a different type.

this boy (perhaps girl) has excellent talent - if he could provide a decent template for some stuff I'd happily go out and spray his stuff, (some of mine as well) but I would be happy to see the same thing all over the country / city / europe..... why? Because the impact of seeing that image whereever our happy citizen goes is far greater than seeing one once now and then, if it's the same repeatedly it gets into the consciousness of the viewer... that's why they repeat the ads at the cinema and on tv. To harness the power of acting individually you have to be prepared to act in unison as well, not just in your marching but everything else.

but your right I'll sort some billboards when I come over next time.

I can stop posting

01.06.2004 18:04

I'll link this to the next couple of pictures I do, if comments are on the whole negative in the way that you say then I'll quit (my boss at least would be happy), if they're not then I'll ensure that the title on the newswire warns of IMF spam content so you can ensure you don't load any up.

Re: On the streets

LOLA- If you want to make a template of a piece that someone's stencilled , simply trace it off the wall (or if it's photo'd, print it out to the required size). Now stick onto some card, and knife away. Bingo. The artist is unlikely to invoke copyright laws and if it's my stuff you wanna do, knock y'self out.

Btw, I don't think there's any more point in wrangling over which form of art "works" better than another (in terms of concrete realpolitik), than there is in the negative comparisons made between different kinds of activism (fluffy, spikey, etc). To divorce and make rivals of things that should be complimentary and mutually strengthening is both artificial, and a backward step. Wait till we've actually stopped a war before arguing over which is best.
