Guardian journalist Sibylla Brodzinsky misreporting on Venezuela - 5th Jun,
04
Sibylla Brodzinsky's article on Venezuela ("Leftwing dictator or saviour of
the poor: Chavez faces new challenge to his rule") fits into the pattern of
half-truths and open lies that characterises the media coverage of the
Bolivarian revolution. This is something we expect from The Economist (which
openly calls for "regime change") but not from the Guardian.

Nicaragua's Contra War Revisited - 5th Jun, 04
Another article in the continuing media campaign in Britain against
Venezuela's President Chavez again posits civil war as a possible sequel to
the current recall referendum process in Venezuela. In a self-contradictory
account published by the Guardian on May 25th, Miami Herald writer Sybilla
Brodzinsky writes that the recall referendum "...may also be the last chance
to avoid a civil war, experts say."

UN's Integrity Questioned - Again - 5th Jun, 04
When U.S. President George W. Bush desperately sought UN assistance last

Global Pessimism About US Power - 5th Jun, 04
With the notable exceptions of China and India, a majority of people in 19
key countries are pessimistic about the world's current direction, says a
just-released survey, which found a high correlation between that feeling
and the belief that U.S. influence is increasingly negative, particularly as
compared to Europe.

Truth vs. Deceit in Foreign Policy - 5th Jun, 04
Writing in the New Republic, former National Security Advisor Zbigniew
Brzezinski characterizes the Bush administration's invasion and occupation
of Iraq as "justified by falsehoods, pursued with unilateral arrogance,
blinded by self-delusion, and stained by sadistic excesses."

US Soldiers May Be Guilty of War Crimes - 5th Jun, 04
A new report from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights concludes that
"grave violations" - even potential war crimes - have occurred since the
U.S.-led forces have occupied Iraq, leaving "a stain upon the effort to
bring freedom" to that country.

No Real Choice - 5th Jun, 04
Once more, Americans will be forced to vote for a man instead of a policy.
It doesn't say much for self-government that the American people are almost
never given a chance to vote on major policy issues.

Australian PM shares a farcical White House media conference with Bush - 5th
Jun, 04
In a telling sign of how seriously the catastrophe in occupied Iraq has
damaged their governments, US President George W. Bush on Thursday lavished
praise on visiting Australian Prime Minister John Howard and launched an
extraordinary intervention into the campaign for this year's scheduled
Australian elections.
