Topics covered on Monday 27 June 2004 are: Shahla Jahed’s execution order in Iran and the death penalty; the status of women political prisoners in Iran; the arrest and release of 8 British servicemen by Iranian regime; and Islamophobia

On Monday 27 June 2004, Maryam Namazie interviews Azar Majedi, head of the Organisation of Women’s Liberation, on Shahla Jahed’s execution order in Iran and the death penalty; Nasrin Parvaz, a former political prisoner in Iran, on the situation of women political prisoners in Iran; Ali Javadi, head of International TV, on the arrest and release of 8 British servicemen by Iranian regime and Bahram Soroush, a UK based civil rights activist, on Islamophobia.

You can see the programme on its new website throughout the week:  http://www.anternasional.tv/english. It is also broadcast via satellite every Monday from 8:30-9:30pm Tehran time (5:00-6:00pm London time). The programme is broadcast on Satellite: Telstar 12, Centre Frequency: 12608 MHz, Symbol Rate: 19279, FEC: 2/3, Polarization: Horizontal and can be seen in Europe and the Middle East via the satellite.

Questions that are raised:
Is there any justification for the death penalty?
Can people gain justice in the Islamic Republic of Iran?
Why exert pressure on Iran for executions when the USA executes as well?
Is there any difference for political prisoners under today’s so-called Reformists in Iran?
What’s the story behind the arrest and release of 8 British servicemen in the past week?
Is their speedy release a result of UK government’s policy of engagement as some in the media say?
What is the best policy towards the Islamic Republic of Iran by Western governments – economic sanctions or political boycott?
Some Islamists say Islamophobia and Arabophobia are part of western culture or a result of Christian rivalry with Islam; are they?
Are Islamic values compatible with western values or human rights as the Islamists say or are they based on Christian values as some others say?
Where do progressive and humane values come from if not from religion?
Is Islamophobia good or bad?

TV International/English is a weekly hour-long news analysis and commentary programme that focuses on the Middle East and rights and freedoms from a progressive and Left standpoint.
