Greek Nationalistic Violence

Greek nationalistic violence.

I think it is important to inform you about Greek violence against Albanian people after the football match on Saturday. The rising of greek fascism and racism is obvious the last days and I believe that you do not get any information about these unacceptable violent incidents. In greece there was 1 dead and more than 50 people in the hospital from the elevation of nationalistic violence. The events sum up to the following
During the last days media were fanaticizing people with reports for anti-greek motions of the Albanians, attacks to the greek fans moved to Albany to see the game, though without showing a single picture of such events. People were talking about another victory of the champions of Europe and all this shits.
For the history Albany won Greece (2-1). Albanians got in the streets to celebrate the victory of their football team with flags, shouting etc. an identical situation when greece won euro 2004 (they were celebrating together although fascists had opposed to them and there were several violent conflicts).
Comments like “they will win today, but tomorrow they will be again our slaves”, “look these sub-humans want to win” were very common during the game. The disgusting was that the people commenting like this were not extremists but common people voting neoliberalists’ and socialists’ parties (Nea Dimokratia and PASOK).
Small groups of greek fascists and racists were already in the streets waiting with flags. In the meantime they are moving around in the bars and shops telling other people that Albanians are armed, that is a shame for greece to let these dirty sub-humans celebrating etc. Lot of people (mostly younger 14-20 years old) are gathered and started fighting. In fact they stroked the Albanians that were surprised from the extreme violence and just run away. The interference of the police was instant. They started hitting the Albanians and they arrested about 20 people in Athens.
I would not refer this fact if it happened only in Athens. After the game almost in every city we had similar phenomena. A short list of the nationalistic violence follows
In Rethmyno (Crete) people was stopping cars and motorbikes with foreigners and was hitting them (3 people in the hospital)
In Volos they broke the offices of the club of albanian refugees and there were some fightings of minor importance.
In Paros several fightings and two Albanians were arrested.
In Ioannina 400 fascists were searching for refugees all the night.
In Salonica people (not only fascists) were breaking cars with foreign signs and hitting everyone who did not look like greek. The cops were just looking without doing anything to save these people (8 in hospital).
In Athens there were a lot of attacks with knifes, clubs and guns. One Ucraine was hit in the eye by a small range gun, several cars of refugees were destroyed, more than 70 albanians went in hospital (two very serious injured) and 20 arrested. In many cases the victims were just passengers.
In zakynthos (a western island) a greek used a knife in the fight. One was injured in the back, one is very seriously injured in the neck and one died after a hit in the heart.

Especially for the last, media immediately announced that this guy has serious psychological problems, was drunken and under the effect of drugs. For the history he is son of a very rich man and he is living in Chicago. The media just mentioned some facts and concluded that the behavior of the guests that eat our food and step on our holy ground was stimulating. The next time it is better for them to stay home. The mayor of salonica requested from the Albanian government to apologize to the greeks for the incidents!!!!!
The people that were transferred in hospitals they had to face more from the behavior of the doctors and the nurses. They were telling to the Albanians “it was your fault”, while in zakynthos they did not allow the entrance of the injured.
After the success in EURO 2004 and the medals in Olympic games greek national feeling was increased (all the summer you were listening from the radio the greek hymn). If we add to this the education in schools for the great ancient greeks and the purity of our nation, the economical recession, unemployment and uncertainty I think that we are moving forward to fascism. Although I feel human and not greek (as it is written in my identity) I feel shame for the people that are living next to me. The banner “COPS, TV, NAZI all the bastards are working together” is up to date than ever.
The worst thing is someone to hate you and you do not know why…
