Press Release: GP Conference .. Pension Crisis Could Be Solved By Government Death From Waste Policy.

Incineration seriously damages public health, Leading Toxicologist claims.

The governments policy of incinerating radioactive and toxic wastes is
resulting in the deaths of literally tens of thousands every year, a
government recognised toxicologist and incinerator expert revealed.

Speaking at the Green Party conference in Weston Super-Mare, Dr Van Steenis
and Michael Ryan, a civil engineer who lost both his mother and son from
leukaemia and a daughter to cot death.

They have spent many years examining the effects of incineration on the
population,

Mr Ryan, presented official government data on public health, for incinerators around the country, together with a detailed examination of the existing Colnbrook 1 Ton Per Hr Clinical Radioactive and Hazardous waste Incinerator.

The site beside Heathrow Airport is where Grundon’s plan to build 2 huge incinerators in the near future, One of which will be the second largest in Europe, the largest is destined to live in Kent. The data showed alarming and continuing rise in mortality, cancers, birth Defects, heart and lung disease and pregnancy failures in the vicinity of incinerator sites.

(see data for Hillingdon below.)

Dr VS said that studies of the St Nikalas incinerator in
Belgium over a twenty year period have proved that life expectancy of people living
in a twenty mile radius of an incineration plant decreases by an average
of twelve years. This research is corroborated by other world-wide studies.

In Britain these incinerators, sited by government policy in already
Polluted, densely populated areas. The evidence to say they pose a direct threat to the public health is overwhelming, particularly to the health of the young and unborn.

Children are particularly vulnerable to the effects of particulates, very small toxic particles, the smaller the particle the more deadly they are. The world health organisations say particulates are one of the modern worlds biggest health threats.

In Belgium, said Dr Van Steenis, we were seeing life expectancies in areas
close to incinerators slashed to as little as sixty-three for men and fifty-nine
for women. The good news is that, with the government refusing to recognise
that this pattern is repeating itself in British cities, we can stop
worrying about the pensions crisis.

Minimising the public health dangers of incineration is just one of a
number
of deceptive strategies employed by those who profit from the governments
failure to address the consequence of its waste policies. says Hugo
Charlton,
chairman of the Green Party and human rights lawyer. Others include
manipulating
legal advice to intimidate local authorities on planning issues.

Green party spokespeople are forceful in their condemnation of this lethal
policy. The Green Party is the only party with a clear anti-incineration
policy.

Darren Johnson, Green Party London Assembly Member said: Incineration is
terrible; its wrong, and leads to a deadly cocktail of pollutants which
are toxic and lethal to human life.

Miriam Kennett: Green Party trade and industry spokesperson added: as a
parent, protecting the health of our children and future generations is
the most important thing we can do. Putting corporate profit before public
health is a recipe for disaster, for the UK to have a healthy economy we
first need to have a healthy workforce.

Jean Lambert, MEP, commented: The only real solution is not to create waste
in the first place, and to take the EEC packaging directive and corporate,
not just community recycling seriously.

Dr Derek Wall, Green Party Executive member said “the information and
Statistics on my local incinerator in Colnbrook were terrifying, this is live data
produced from official government statistics”
“As an economist, I can only say waste policy, which could lead to the public purse funding the care of a chronically sick population is madness”
