The Good, the bad and the ugly

Leeds Underground Film brings another edition of free film screenings and workshops to the city , this year inviting you to dissent with us in Scotland where the next G8 summit will take place (July 2005). In past years, everywhere they have tried to meet they have been met with a massive response from the world's social movements.

A film made at Club 6.30, a drop in centre for asylum seekers.
1.00 HOPE FOR THE HOPELESS (USA, 2001, 19 min)
Recounts the liberation of eight hens by American activists.250 million hens in America are not so lucky.
1.25 ARGENTINAZO- THE REVOLUTION STARTS (19 min)
The Argentineans riots in 2001, and the start of hope.

Citing an article on George W Bush ‘Armed and threatening World peace’ from the january 31, 2002 issue of Le Monde, the lyrics of Un Axe de mal are sung to the melody of the original Jermaine Jackson/ Pia Zadora song When the rain begin to fall.

2.30 pm THE WEATHER UNDERGROUND (Dir: Sam Green, Bill Siegel, USA, 2003, 92 min)
Thirty years ago a group of young Americans radicals called the Weatherman announced their intention to Overthrown the US government. One of the top documentaries of the year, this award winning film interweaves extensive archival material with modern day interviews to explore the incredible story of’ The Weather Underground’. Academy Award Nominee Best Feature Documentary - Sundance 2003, Golden Gate Award, Best Documentary, San Francisco Film Festival 2003

5.45 pm THIS WAY OUT (Jill Burnett and Antonin Lhotsky, Parlare Productions, Canada, 32 min )
Khunya is the son of a Kenyan church leader. Arslan grew up in Pakistan religious capital. Ana Claudia was a well-known sports caster in Brazil. All three shared a terrible secret, which if discovered, could have destroyed not just their lives, but those of the people closest to them: they are homosexual. This way out recounts their fight to the United States where each claims asylum based on their sexual orientation.
6.20pm AT THE AUCTION BLOCK (Compassion Over Killing - WASHINGTON DC, 2003, 15min)
Using hidden cameras, members of the animal rights organization capture the horrifying reality of live stock auctions. This footage exposes the often overlooked process that non-human animals experience before they are sent to slaughter.
6.50 PM WORKSHOP INDYMEDIA (40 min).
Leeds-Bradford Indymedia is part of a global network of locally based websites offering independent, non-corporate news coverage. It serves as a space in which people are free to present their own stories and versions of events. The workshop will outline the histroy of the global IMC project and how Leeds-Bradford IMC came to be. It will feature an interactive session on how to use the site, post your own news, stories, musci, radio, film, whatever!
7.40 pm GREENDALE (Dir: Neil Young, Shakey productions, US, 87 min)
Neil Young's musical interpretation of a small town murder and its repercussions.
Created by one of the greatest and well-respected musicians of our time, Neil Young's directorial debut and Toronto Film Festival premier, GREENDALE, is a "musical novel" told through some of his finest songs to date.
