Christmas Without Cruelty Fayre This Sunday

Rubber Ritchie | 30.11.2004 13:21 | Animal Liberation | Ecology | Health | London

A celebration of cruelty-free living with entertainment, information, shopping and an auction of items donated by celebrities. This year we are really excited to include live music, a magician, face painting and a contortionist, alongside the 70 fantastic stalls from ethical organisations and companies.

COME TO OUR CHRISTMAS WITHOUT CRUELTY FAYRE
THIS SUNDAY 10-5 at Kensington Town Hall, this Sunday 5 December.

At the one time of year when most people are determined to be happy, raising the issue of animal cruelty can make you look like a killjoy. But the truth is that for millions of animals, Christmas celebrations are the cause of considerable cruelty.

Slaughtered and eaten; given away as presents like disposable toys; and forced to perform silly tricks for the sake of entertainment - these are just a few of the ways in which animals suffer for our seasonal pleasure.

With a little thought and action however, you can make sure your choices have not caused harm to animals. Come and join us at the Christmas Without Cruelty Fayre on 5th December, where animal charities, ethical traders, campaign groups, musicians and performers will gather together to celebrate a compassionate Christmas.

This year follow our easy tips for a cruelty-free Christmas - and give gorgeous gifts, eat delicious food and party in style without hurting animals

Christmas Without Cruelty Fayre, which this year takes place at Kensington Town Hall in London on Sunday 5 December. We can positively guarantee a great day out for all the family!

As in previous years, our Fayre will be a celebration of cruelty-free living with entertainment, information, shopping and an auction of items donated by celebrities. This year we are really excited to include live music, a magician, face painting and a contortionist, alongside the 70 fantastic stalls from ethical organisations and companies.

It really is the perfect opportunity to do your Christmas shopping, safe in the knowledge that all your purchases will be animal-friendly and supporting those who produce them. For example, you can sample chocolates from The Cocoa Tree, cosmetics from Honesty, get yourself a new pair of Vegetarian Shoes and learn more about the work of the Monkey Sanctuary - all under one roof!

Entertainment at the fayre will include music by Freefall Five, magic by Smile and Subvert Entertainments, face painting and the fantastic contortionist Rubber Richie (see www.flexinthecity.com)

Don't panic if you're concerned that all this shopping will leave you feeling a little worn out. We have a solution. Take time out to try the delicious Lebanese cuisine of Leon Lewis or treat yourself to a cake and a coffee at the Veggies' stall.

Once rested, make sure you come along to our auction of celebrity-donated items. Prizes are flooding into the Animal Aid offices and with no reserve prices, you could find yourself walking away with a real bargain. How about two pairs of tickets to West End productions Blood Brothers or The Woman in Black? What about a case of fine vegan wine to help you get into the festive spirit? Or perhaps you are a football fan and a signed Aston Villa football shirt is just what you are looking for? These are just a few of the items already donated to this year's auction.

Other items include a hand-drawn T-shirt by Joanna Lumley; signed books from Alan Bennett, Terry Pratchett, Alan Ayckbourn and Simon Cowell; signed photos from Ricky Gervais, Davina McCall, Martin Clunes, Everton Football Club and Jamie Cullum; signed CD from Billy Bragg; a limited Edition Sheryl Crowe fleece plus many, many more...

Your £1 admission price includes free entry to talks by three high-profile campaigners: Green MEP Caroline Lucas, human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell and Animal Aid's scientific consultant Andre Menache. Presentations will be taking place throughout the day, so you will have plenty of opportunity to plan your shopping and eating without missing the events you really want to attend.
