The all-new Leeds Social Forum - Meet and Greet!!!

Leeds University Social Forum formed five months ago with the aim of eventually having enough momentum to move out of the uni and fill the space of the Leeds Social Forum, dealing with issues that affect not just students, but citizens of Leeds as a whole. Five months on, the group believes it is there, and has been granted the name Leeds Social Forum by past participants.

The first Leeds Social Forum meeting shall be held in the Packhorse Pub on 2nd Feb starting at 7pm.
In the pipeline we have a report back from the World Social Forum, a self created anti-racism working group proposing plans for Leeds-wide action, and a Panel on the G8 - hoping to include War on Want, Make Poverty History and Dissent among others.
The general purpose of this meeting is to attract new faces, and to start to move out of the uni and into the community.
Everyone is welcome, and there is the added bonus of it being in a pub, so no excuses!

As Leeds Social Forum has built up such a stong base of dedicated support from the university, the prospect of a powerful coalition of many trade unions, social groups, campaign groups and individuals from the city is a VERY exciting prospect. It is vital that we attract many people from outside the university as soon as possible to get the ball rolling! A central feature on our change of name, venue and character would help this immensely!

Greetings from a sheffield SF'er, it's great news that a revitalised LSF is getting set up, we really are the future. but please don't just go for the easy options of globalise resistance type activities,

While you should tackle racism. the G8, civil liberties, etc don't just go for the spectacular, apply yourselves, get to know people's problems in the city: drugs, poverty, housing, their concerns that they are being left out/ignored, making them amenable to far right groups/ideas. i am sure you will....oh and dont let one group/party dominate your agenda
