In consideration of you not commencing proceedings against us for libel for defaming EDO MBM Technology Limited in the manner set out in the letter from Reynolds Porter Chamberlain dated 3rd February 2005 we, Indymedia UK,
hereby undertake that we will definately in the future (acting by ourselves, and our employees and agents and otherwise howsoever) publish defamatory statements relating to the activities of EDO MBM Technology Limited, including, without limitation, those statements complained of in Reynolds Porter Chamberlain's letter of 3rd February 2005 and words to a similar effect.

No doubt EDO/MBM is looking forward to disclosing their full client list and product list to back up that claim.

A nice protracted libel case should bring them loads of publicity as well. Not all of it good, and when it is proven that their "weapons interfacing systems" aid the slaughter of little kiddies in Iraq, well it'll be an expensive own goal, innit?

I note that the briefs appear not to understand how open publishing works.... so Messrs. Roberts, Barnbrook, Hills, Jones, Mullins and Northam might well like to reconsider their usefulness.

My suggestion - stop making da "weapons interface systems" and make something that saves lives rather than takes them.

The people who threaten legal retrubution are as bad as the ones who produce arms.

It brings up the question do lawyers have morals or consciences, maybe send them a pic of a mutalated child and ask them what they think of it and if they are proud to represent people who are complicit in such things.

Dear Mr Mayer (I assume you are the lawyer)

I retract the previous rudeness IF you can find a way of arguing that it's against the law to swear at someone (I wouldn't put it past people of your profession). In fact, I'll retract it anyway because it's not really productive to talk to people like that, even people who deserve it.

Secondly, I'd like to make it clear that I am not part of the Indymedia collective, I'm just a frequent reader.

Well, basically what I want to say is that by intimidating people who are rightfully criticising a company which is complicit in the slaughter of innocent civilians, you are yourselves (morally if not necessarily legally) complicit in this killing. Think about that, hey?

Is this what you went into the Law for? Helping to promote the killing of innocent civilians. You might tell me that you don't believe that this killing is taking place. Well how convenient, Steve. However, very convenient. But you know it's true really though don't you. You can make whatever excuses you like to me, but can you really make excuses to your conscience.

Consider this. When you are an old man, retired and in your autumn years, will you look back and think "damn, I wish I'd represented more arms companies, I wish I'd tried (even) harder to help the rich and powerful throw their weight around"? Or will you perhaps feel a twinge of regret that you didn't contribute enough to this world? That you essentially did more harm than good with your life. I'm sure there's still a human being buried deep somewhere within the recesses of your mind. Perhaps this human being shows himself when he's with his family. Well do you ever stop to consider that all these civilians who die because of companies like EDO have families as well. Families full of people who's lives are now totally destroyed. And to think, YOU, yes YOU are a part of that.

How do you sleep? Do you sleep well? Really?

Now before you start threatening me (and I'm sure threatening people is something which comes so easily to you, at least during working hours, that it's become almost like a habit) I assure you that *I* am not threatening *you* in anyway. But I DO have the right to send you an angry email. And that's just what I'm doing.

I've been reading Indymedia on a regular basis for years now. It's a brilliant resource for people who are interested in using their lives to help make the world a *better* place, rather than a *worse* one, which (the latter) is what you are evidently doing.

When did it happen Stephen, when did you sell out? Which was the precise moment when you decided that money was the only thing in the world that mattered to you? When did your sense of right and wrong go out the window?

Another thing, don't you think that a libel case would give a lot of bad publicity to your client? What makes you so confident you can win? Even if some of the charges did not stick, perhaps others would...

After all, is it not true that the systems EDO provides are used in the process of war and that in particular many people die as a result of the use of this technology and that this includes many civilians and in particular many women and children.

Another thing you may wish to get your heads around is that Indymedia is an OPEN PUBLISHING newswire. Each piece of content on Indymedia is, as far as I understand, the responsibility of the individual member of the public who posted that specific piece.

Activists for global social and environmental justice have braved teargas and in some cases even torture in Genoa for example. What makes you think they can be intimidated by a bunch of profit-hungry Lawyers.

The global justice movement continues in the tradition of the chartists, the suffragettes, the fight against slavery, the american civil rights movement, those who fought against apartheid, the piqueteros of argentina, the indigenous people of chiapas, the peaceful resistance of Ghandi, and everyone who has ever struggled against oppression and injustice. History will show you that none of these people were ever easily intimidated by lawyers.

Here's a song by Bob Dylan called Masters Of War. It's directed at the arms companies, but it also applies, in my opinion, to the cowardly greedy lawyers who aid them, such as yourself., Stephen.

I have left out the last verse because it's unkind and it might make you cry, but here's the rest of it. If you do fancy a good cry though, then just think about the effect of your work on the people of the world. Think of all that suffering that YOU, Stephen Mayer, are a part of.

The tone of this email may sound a little harsh. But just remember one thing - YOU have provoked this anger.

I'm sure there have been many letters in the letters pages of newspapers accusing Tony Blair of being a "Warmonger". Did he sue? No. If we can call Tony Blair a warmonger then why wouldn't it be allowed to call EDO warmongers? Since there's no precise legal definition of warmonger, it's not really something that can be disproved in a court of law.

Wednesday, March 24, 2004 - EDO Corporation has been awarded a $6.3 million "Foreign Military Sale" contract for 34 production-phase BRU-57 bomb-release units on F-16 aircraft. Deliveries are expected to be completed by 2006.

Under the Foreign Military Sales program, U.S. defense contractors, such as EDO, sell defense equipment indirectly to foreign governments through U.S. Government contracting agencies. This contract's foreign-government customer is not being disclosed.

The BRU-57 is a multiple-weapons carriage system that is capable of integrating the latest technology munitions known as "smart weapons." The BRU-57 enables individual targeting and release of each weapon. The U.S. Air Force has ordered approximately 400 BRU-57 units to date.

Compared to the previously used TER-3 triple ejector rack, it has advantages of interfacing with smart weapons, higher reliability and maintainability, and greater safety with lower potential for collision of weapons during release.

The BRU-57 has two stations, each with MIL-STD-1760 interfaces for smart weapons so flight and targeting data can be transferred to the weapon immediately prior to release. The F-16 now will be able to carry four, instead of two, 1,000-pound class smart weapons, thus doubling its "smart weapon" capacity.

The U.S. Air Force recently certified use of the Lockheed Martin CBU- 103/104/105/107 Wind Corrected Munitions Dispenser series using the BRU-57 on its fleet of Block 40/42/50/52 F-16 aircraft. Certification of the AGM-154 Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW) is expected to be completed late this year. The rack is also compatible with 500-pound and 1,000-pound Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAMs).

The F-16 is the first aircraft to use the BRU-57. The BRU-57 contains two BRU-46 ejector units already used in the U.S. Air Force inventory.
