Seen wednesday on BBC 4 in the 'Storyville' series:
The very impressive documentary "Why we fight" by Eugene Jarecki. Absolutely the most brilliant film about America's militairism i've ever seen. In january, this new film won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival.

"Why we fight" orginally is the title of an American series of World War IIr propaganda movies.

In this 100 minutes long 2005 documentary, a very good picture is digested about the development of the American militairy -industrial complex since WW II. It sketches the increasing danger from this power structure to world peace and freedom. Even an American president already warned for a doom scenario in 1961 at his farewellspeech: Eisenhower. The Bush regime is put in perspective very well. After you have seen this film, it is farely impossible to have a bit of confidence left in Bush & co. And you will realize that it is very obvious that Iraq is not the last country wich is going to be invaded by the U.S.

Hopefully this film will be on prime-time nationwide dutch tv before Bush visits the Netherlands in may 2005. Anyway it should be available for a much broader audience then only those fortunate to have BBC 4 reception.

Who knows if this film is available anywhere for download? (Torrent orso)

Why We Fight: Storyville

On January 17 1961, in his farewell speech to the nation, President Dwight Eisenhower issued a caveat to the American people that "unwarranted influence" was being acquired by "a permanent arms industry of vast proportions". Calling it the American military-industrial complex, Eisenhower sounded a solemn alarm.

Today this American military-industrial complex has untold power. Defence spending in the US is the highest in American history - $396 billion - and it is more than the total sum allocated to all other spending sectors.

Director Eugene Jarecki's film takes a social and political journey through the 50 years following Eisenhower's prophecy, and investigates the joint venture between the US government and the arms industry into the business of making war.

Contains strong language.
