Cre8 Summit workshop seeks folk who want to run a workshop/perform/cook

koyote | 10.05.2005 15:40 | G8 2005 | Globalisation

DESPERATELY SEEKING: anyone who wants to come up for Cre8 Summit and run a workshop/perform/host an event/cook/whatever! The Summit runs from June 12-17 and whether you can do a one-off or a repeated event, please let us know!

Cre8 Summit has been organised by individuals wanting to protest 'for'
something rather than 'against' the G8.
We are planning to work with the ongoing community protests against
the
building of the M74 in Glasgow. The main communities we are working
with are the council estates of Govanhill and Gorbles.
The plan for the work is to reclaim a vacant piece of land that is on
site for the construction of the motorway, and than to turn it into a
community social space with gardens, sculptures, benches, artwork,
etc.

The work on this project is underway. During May we will be running
weekly workshops with the communities. During the second week of
June,
we will reclaim the land (community open day 12th of June) and begin a
week of work (from the13-17th of June) to turn this bit of waste land
into something the community can enjoy.

There is an email list that announces news on this project:

We need Plants!
We had a meeting recently and discussed plants. Basically we decided
that it is going to be almost impossible for us to get a proper list
together of the plants we need. We are hoping to run a participatory
planning workshop for the community to decide what they are interested
in for the site, but this won't happen until the end of May (too late
for getting plants together).
So, we are asking people for whatever plants they have an
abundance of. Stick to the plants that you have enough of so it won't
be an issue sharing some. Once we have all the plants, we will have
to
figure what we actually have and what we can do with them (this
project
will definantly run with a large chaos factor).
I can make a few personal suggestions for what types of plants
would be good. Since the site will be as much a greened social space
as a food production garden, plants that have a low-need for
maintenance would be preferred. There would likely be some areas
dedicated to food production (but no idea if community members really
want this or will maintain it), and more areas will be planted for
landscaping. However, if landscaping can be done with self-managing
plants that also have a food use, that is brilliant. Both herbs and
berries would be really good for this reason.
Finally, we now have a place in GLasgow for collecting and keeping
plants. Contact me and we can arrange them getting there.

OK, that's most info to-date. If you have any questions, or still
want
to know how to get involved, please feel free to email back.
