Lockheed Martin gives children in Sierra Leone Electronic Welfare

Electronic Warfare jammer | 27.05.2005 11:37 | Anti-militarism | Repression | London | South Coast

A conference on Electronic Warfare was picketted by activists yesterday. Titled 'Wider Horizons, Infinite Challenges' the conference, organised by The Shephard Group and hosted by the Royal Lancester Hotel, was attended by major arms dealers like BAE Systems,Lockheed Martin and EDO.

The conference was addressed by top military brass, past and present, including Air Vice-Marshall Stuart Peach RAF, Director General Intelligence Collection, MOD and Group Captain Cliff Thomas RAF (Ret'd), Past President UK OAC - The Electronic Warfare and Information Operations Association UK. The delegates were less forthcoming about the role of Electronic Warfare outside the conference but one delegate was unable to keep to himself and his buddies the valauble services provided by EW.
Chris Slack of Lockheed Martin was initially cagey about the nature of Electronic Warfare referring an activist to Google. However when pressed Chris gushed about LM's role in saving the orphans in Sierra Leone during the conflict there in the 90s and protecting children being maimed by the Revolutionary United Front. Come on kids show some gratitude to your saviours Lockheed Martin. Tut, kids nowadays , no respect. Chris failed however to elaborate on this argument when challenged as he had finished his fag and had important child-saving business to do.
Such was the nature of the threat posed to the distinguished delegates by the 4 activists that a riot van and 6 cops were needed, 2 of them constantly patrolling the building to prevent infiltration. Those leaflets did look like they could have been printed with poisoned ink.
US arms dealers EDO Corp had a particulary large presence in recognition of their weapons interfacing expertise. Apparently some EDO delegates were overheard talking about a trip to the seaside over the long weekend in search of sun and sand.
Sorry dudes the only sand you'll find in Brighton is up at EDO/MBM your UK subsidiary in form of 3 sand pits. But pay a visit anyway and stop over till Tuesday when from 3-6 the Big Demo will send a loud message to warmongering excrement like yourselves that you are not welcome in Brighotn or anywhere. Come along to the Public Meeting afterwards at the Friends Meeting house to defend your company's activities. Perhaps you too like Chris Slack of LM have a heart-warning tale of the Electronic Welfare provided by EDO.

A thought

27.05.2005 16:02

Here's a thought - without the equipment provided by people like Lockheed Martin the British soldiers in Sierra Leone who saved the population from terrible oppression, murder and rape wouldn't have been able to do their job.

The big picture

You Bastard

27.05.2005 19:21

You Bastard Big Picture - how dare you make the activist world consider bigger issues. That is not what we want to do.

THE REAL PICTURE

27.05.2005 20:04

oh oh can i play this thought game too. Heres a thought. Without companies like lockhead Martin there would be no weapons to have wars and such crisis in the first place therefore you wouldnt need the stupid british troops to go in there in the first place.

And shut up with your british troops save the day bull shit the situation there is shit and will always be shit. THe dumbass british troops went there for the same reason dumbass troops from every cunttree interfere. TO PROTECT ECONOMIC INTERESTS OR TO EXPAND THEM.

Some idiots never learn from history. Go read a book or something

stop thinking

Some focus

28.05.2005 09:33

The rebels in sierra Leone were not using weapons made by Western Arms companies. They were using hand made axes, knives etc.

I wonder of the people of the country view the British troops who saved their lives as "stupid".

You idiot........axes knives etc????!!!!! Machine guns aer their main weapons source. grenades, bombs, and mines are also another. And its not only western companies i condemn its all weapons companies. Theyre all out making money selling items that have been and will be responsible for the death of thousands upon thousands of innocents. The only non innocents in the battle ground are the troops who choose to go there. Theyre old enough to make a moral choice and if that is to invade anywhere then i say they shuold be killed. 2ndly whose life has been saved? what u mean like in iraq where the coalition went in there and saved all the iraqis lives which is why iraqis are now 24times more likely to suffer violent deaths. Someone needs to invade this country to save us all from people like you who with their dangerous minds excuse any military intervention. Funny how the british never interfere in countries where their economic interests are not under threat yet who still live under dictatorships and slaughter many of their people (look at zimbabwe, saudi arabia, kuwait) I suggest you go Get a brain tony and then go get clued up coz you've been sucked into cloud koo koo land

Fuck all troops

f*** all troops-yawn what a F***wit!

Your comments are completley irrational and indicate someone who is rather immature to say the least- troops deserve to die? Well for your information the British intervention in Sierra Leone was not an invasion(unlike Iraq which seems to have rather coloured your limited take on subjects), it was UN sponsored and indeed UN troops were already there and still are, they just did not have the stength or command ability to deal with a rampaging terror group like the RUF. Since the intervention stability has returned to sierra leone and there are moves to put some RUF leaders on trial. Unfortunately the real bad guys who were financing the whole thing (libya and Liberia's Charles Taylor) have yet to assume responsibility. As for going to war for only economic interests that is more rubbish, the economic interests in the Falklands, Afghanistan, Bosnia, Kosovo, and Northern Ireland please? Why don't u go to thoose places i have mentioned and see whether people prefered the way things were before the UK troops deployed? One word of advice though, if on your travels you avoid areas made safer by UK troops and get kidnapped, please don't expect the 'dumbass' Brit troops to attempt a rescue, gud as they are at these missions, i personally hope no brit lives are put at risk defending ur right to be a snivelling 'stay at home and whinge' sponging shite.P.S Get a girlfriend! Can't get 1? Join the Army then u'll be quids in for tottie!

Hmmm lets see. Afghanistan, falklands northern ireland, yugoslavia????????? u dickhead how can u say no contracts have been given to western companies there? Yugoslavia happens to be right next to the country i come from (GREECE) and unlike the completely 1 sided british news (worthy of competition with fox news) we found out where the contracts were going and believe me when i say this Britain got her fair share. You're right about afghanistan though. One doesnt need to look far to see that only 5 years ago Karzai was a high ranked employee of UNICAL the U.S company that happened to get a majority of contracts in afghanistan after the war. and I suppose there are no british companies in Northern Ireland, what a fool am I. hmmm and the falklands (how the fuck does your stupid country have the right to claim its theirs) again you're right to expect that by controlling the falklands britain has no authority over shipping and trading in the area. i think u should crawl back to the sewer you came from and come back out when u got some serious arguments to give. As for the UN. If you wanna try to persuade me that the UN are an independent body with peace and stability on their minds then why have they not acted while Israel has breached over 70 of their resolutions in the past 60 years, why have they not taken action against saudi arabia, kuwait, zimbabwe and all other US/UK collaborators? hmm maybe coz these countries protect the economic interests of teh US UK already thus there is no reason to intervene. If a Greek soldier decides to go to Iraq or intervene in any other country on behalf of "security forces" i hope he comes back in a box. same with a british soldier and any other soldier of the world. Get a girlfriend? thats a great argument man. whether i have a girlfriend or not or have ever had one or will ever have one has nothing to do with the puffs in the british army who moraly made choices to go abroad like fucking cowboys and 'save the day.' We saw teh dicks in Iraq where after a hard days work of more killing, they decided to shoot an extremely amusing remake of show me the way to amorilo. Just goes to show the brains those dickheads carry. One day my friend british and american control over the masses in africa, the middle east the world will end and if any british soldiers decide to stay on and fight, lets just say itl be fun to watch them get crushed as theyve done to the people of other countries for so long. Till then. Every soldier dead in Iraq brings Iraqi freedom one step closer. The world doesnt want britain to 'save it' i suggest the British army have some fun and start wars within the counties of the island, maybe then idiots like you can see what its like living in a warzone.

death to all troops in foreign lands

There is no point in trying to explain, through facts and rational argument, the real nature of people and the world to these 'whinging activists'. Even if you try, all you get in return is a load of semi-literate trash from some poorly educated idiot.

The world is, in their eyes, made up of GOOD or BAD. To them there are no complex issues in which one must make considered value judgements in order to determine the optimum strategy to achieve an outcome which at best may be a compromise.

Theirs is the "you're either with us or you're against us" approach, BLACK or WHITE, no Gray in their eyes.

To be honest, many years ago, I myself have attended CNC marches. But then I grew up and looking back realise what a naive ill-informed kid I was. Some of todays activists will do the same, and some will simply carry on feeding off eachother's sycophantic nonsense and using bad language to try to offload their anger and frustration. So just let them be, there is no point in trying to explain the way of the world to them.

Where to start...

Really, your argument is very poor.
Do you even know what EW is? Maybe you think its some sort of especially dangerous voodoo, but the guy from Lockheed Martin on a ciggy break is right, information is available on the internet and it's not very exciting.
There are far easier ways of stimulating UK business then starting a war to generate demand for British products, which is a prespoterous idea. Is this your only argument?
Saving oppressed people is an admirable aim, but if that's what you really want why aren't you out picketing the governments of Zimbabwe and Sierra Leone to stop robbing from their treasury and oppressing their people?
You seem a very angry young man, and I suspect your real problem not with UK defence strategy but how society has treated you. Maybe you should see a doctor or, as already suggested, get a girlfriend/boyfriend.

Hope this helps....A. Rationalist
