The South East Assembly has chartered two trains to take people up to the protests against the G8 summit. This will also include the huge

Every day there will be different protests at nulcear bases (faslane July 4th), detention centres (Dungavel July 5th) and several other initiatives which need support. But where will people stay?

01.06.2005 09:14

And where are people going to fucking stay while they are up there? Most people can't afford rip off hotel prices and given that so many people are going there wont be any hotel vacancies in Edinburgh for most people. So it will be a case of most people having to sleep in shop and office doorways in Edinburgh city centre and risk getting their heads kicked in by drunks when the pubs chuck out!

i guess if you'ld read the above, you would have noticed:

"The trains will depart early morning from London Kings Cross and arrive in Edinburgh where accommodation (bring sleeping bags and tents!) will be provided for free."

From my experience of the Beyond ESF, this will be the case. But, i guess it could be a problem if you are expecting hotel facillaties...

I hear that spaces are being sorted out - so don't worry your socks off! If you want to stay at the Ritz then London might be more peaceful that Edinburgh though. I get the impression that Edinburgh is going to have a bit of a cool vibe about it that weekend.

Accomodation will be provided, but like the European Social Forum held last October in London major provision looks like a last minute affair - the local council, emergency planning officer etc are all aware of the now very pressing need to provide mass accomodation. Not to mention now that Geldof has said he's going to encourage hundreds of thousands to go there for 6th July...

Failing anything there will obviously be some kind of mass land occupation in or out of cities because so many people will be going whether there is free accomodation advertised or not... it's quite simple really.

looming issue though

Convergence sites

02.06.2005 09:53

There will be convergence space organised through Dissent in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and a rural camp site near Gleneagles. I'm sure other groups like G8 Alternatives have organised accomodation too.
