Peace in the Park 2005 festival held in The Sheffield General Cemetery between Ecclesall Road and Cemetery Road. There was music from the main stage, the open mic stage with the speakeasy cafe and more. Also a kids area, healing area, and film tent. There was food stalls, meditation space, DJing workshops, campaign stalls, massage, artists and artisans, discussion, art workshops, and lots of other things....
All profits this year go to the Sheffield Archer Project, a charity providing support for the homeless, and the Intermediate Technology Development Group, an international charity working on practical ways to end poverty for people in need all over the world.
The festival was the endpoint to the first demonstration against the G8 Justice and Interior Ministers meeting which is in Sheffield on the Wednesday to Friday following Peace in the Park. The G8 puts vast wealth and power towards war and it's own economic success yet refuses to address poverty worldwide, a disaster that kills 50 000 people every day.
The demonstration, gathered in town on Devonshire Green, Division St at 10:30am for a carnival against the G8; called by Sheffield Stop the War Coalition and supported by many groups including Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Sheffield Muslim Association of Britain, Sheffield CND, and G8 Sheffield.
