This is the true spirit of the protest. Too many people are ignoring the environmental impact of the transport method they are using, cars, planes, mini-buses etc

Well done

Bloody well done

green authoritarianism

23.06.2005 22:27

There you again, you environmentalists, telling the working classes how to live.

Pollution is a BOSSES PROBLEM, they're causing all the polution. Ordinary people have a hard enough deal already, they don't need even more limits placed on their lives. If someone wants to drive a car, what the hell's wrong with that?

free the motorist!

Climate Change

23.06.2005 23:02

Climate Change goes beyond class struggle I'm afraid. A car driven by a nurse, tesco manager or shopkeeper still produces CO2. Our actions over the next ten years are critical, we must reduce carbon dioxide emissions! Ecological disasters are here now & the flooding & pollution is only going to get worse.

I'm not telling anyone what to do I'm not authoritarian, I just have a dire message to give as do all environmentalists. The Earth will survive ecological meltdown, in the mean time there is going to be a huge amount of suffering, it has been reported that by the end of this century 30- 60% of all species on this earth will be extinct if current trends continue.

Of course we must fight our oppressors & seek liberation, but we must also fight for generations to come who may well ask us why didn't we do more to fight pollution & it's causes. Why waste electricity & resources on meaningless consumerism (at the expense of pollution & land destruction), why not walk or cycle instead of drive?

hassle the rich though

24.06.2005 17:21

i agree that hassling less well off people about their environmental impact is a little unfair. after all, it's the rich that create all the mess. it's the rich that take plane journeys and the rich that own huge 4x4s in the middle of cities.

i cycled to the G8 because i'm ashamed of the environmental impact i've already ammassed in my 23 years on this planet. i'm not going to start hassling 'working class' people though. rich toffs with 4x4s and a jet plane addiction get an earfull at every opportunity though.

it is a complete mystery to me why anything green is seen as counter-revolutionary. what i think is more likely is that aging class strugglers are jealous of any attention given to any issue other than that which is specifically class war. get with it! climate change is important. it's also a great class leveller as everyone will suffer if the planet dies. what better argument is there for a classless future?

i'm fighting a class war, an environmental struggle and a battle against aging dogmatists who want to control the political debate.

Nothing to do with class...

24.06.2005 18:05

It is all to do with personal responsibility. NO-ONE should be able to say 'it is all x's fault so I won't change until they do'. This is not going to help.

It is a very selfish view that says 'its not my problem its all the rich buggers who make the mess'. It is your problem, it is my problem and it will be our childrens' problem (if you have any that is). We have to stop thinking in a small world selfish manner and realise that we are all a part of the society that we live in whether we like it or not. We must all team together to address the problems and work for solutions.
