Across the world millions have marched and raised their voices for peace and an end to war and imperialism. At the G8 hundreds of thousands will demonstrate against poverty and the misery it causes. In France millions have spoken out against a European neo-liberal nightmare charter. Our movement is starting to find a voice and demand respect for its ideas. It rejects the racism and the Islamophobia of our so-called leaders Bush and Blair. The victory of George Galloway MP and the votes for Respect point to the birth of a new left. Marxism 2005 is where those voices will come together to discuss and debate the world we live in,and how to change it.

These five days offer a unique chance for the movement to tally our progress and plan our next steps, to look at our tradition and theories,and develop our philosophy of change. Nowhere else does such a range of speakers come together. In fact the dates for this conference are 7th - 11th July 05. So lots of comrades will be leaving gleneagles in scotland after the first day of the G8 summit to hot foot it back to london to discuss the revolution, while others continue to protest. Go figure!

as you quite rightly summise the G8 is a 'protest' the protests will happen all week, if people want to do stuff on thursday and friday thats up to them, G8 alternatives of which the SWP is a part do not have any protests planned for thursday or friday, as previous experience and numbers at Gleneagles will undoubtably mean the G8 meeting will be disrupted at best, unless that is you want to get shot by the police?

The revolution is not going to kick off in Gleneagles, I'm afraid therefore we need to discuss strategies, tactics etc....and get on with the boring but much needed leg work of working on the ground among the people we live with, like Respect in the East end has done, that's what they did in Bolivia and that's what we need to do here, Marxism is an important contribution to that process, and no one is asking you to come if you don't want to!

"Ideas to change the world"? Blimey, so "changing the world" must mean (1) recruiting like mad to build their party structure (2)latching on to any campaign that looks like a recruiting ground for the SWP, trying to dominate it, fucking it up, and then baling out when it's not fashionable any more (3)peddling a form of authoritarian state-Leninism to energetic youth / students looking for an activist outlet, and putting many off meaningful activity ffor life....the SWP are not "revolutionaries", they are statist, dogmatic and authoritarian. Lots of their members are OK, but soon get disillusioned by the party apparatus and leave. A better world would be one with no trace of the SWP and their ilk in it.

I have been to Marxism every year for the past nine ot ten years and I must say it is brilliant.The debates are wide ranging and stimulating and the speakers are really superb.
Over the years I have heard people like Tony Benn,George GallowayLindsey German and Tony Cliff and they have left me with plenty to think about and discuss.Oh and it is well organised.But there have been plenty of meetings where the speakers from the floor have made fantastic contributions .Of course there are some hardened sectarian types who are never going to be satisfied but there again they don t have to go.

oh come off it! if people have been put off long term political activity because of contact with the SWP the question must be were they really up for it in the first place. Thousands of activists around the world put up with a lot more than enthusiastic paper selling in the form of prison, hired thugs, death squads and much more and continue to inspiringly resist. So if you think the SWP is a barrier for political activity you obviously arn't committed to your ideas or maybe you just prefer sectarian sniping at a smaller enemy than actually struggling for real change.
