Police trash guy's bikelock and act like dicks

imc | 06.07.2005 21:58 | G8 2005 | Globalisation | Repression

2:40 7.5MB Quicktime video.

Police stopped a man riding his bike down the A9 this afternoon, grabbed his bike, used bolt-cutters on his bike-lock (presumably they were worried he might be able to use it to lock on to something) and refused to display uniform numbers or provide a receipt for damaged property. Note the particularly dick-headed look on this cop's face throughout the incident.

Sad

That was a perfect example of a police power trip. Poor guy deserves some respect, but I guess that is hard to get from people who think they have authority over you.

In glasgow

07.07.2005 12:24

When I unlocked my bike in Glasgow after getting back from Gleneagles (by bus) a cop threatened me with arrest for locking it "to a train station" (it was on the railings outside).

He let me "off" when I replied it was "something to do with terrorism" that made this a criminal offense..

He was the living image of the pig from 1984 whose children shoot at him with crossbows because all they are exposed to is state militarism and his own authoritarian paranoia........

Send this evidence to Newsnight Scotland!

07.07.2005 13:55

In Scotland, we get a slightly different version of the BBC Newsnight programme to the rest of the UK. The Newsnight programme last night (Wednesday 6th July) was dominated by the London 2012 story, but Newsnight Scotland carried a report on the G8 protests.

Amer Anwar was interviewed, and made allegations of police covering up their numbers. This allegation was put by presenter Gordon Brewer to the officer responsible for police in the area. He denied that there was any edvidence of such actions, but any claims would be investigated.

I imagine Newsnight Scotland would want to follow up on these comments in light of the footage posted on Indymedia. This policeman is clearly abusing his power and should be held to account. It will also make other policeman think twice before doing something similar.

What a bunch of numbnuts you are, call that a riot? There is no co-ordination and you are all so obviously middle class. Go home have a bath (oops sorry you're allergic to soap) and ask Daddy if you can borrow his Merc to go shopping at Mark and Spencers because you got your trousers ruined in the rain.
