Thursday Stirling eco-village timeline

imc | 07.07.2005 11:31 | G8 2005 | World

Breaking news from the Eco-village near Stirling.

19:20: Campsite now good natured and calm again; lots of people have left due to fear of being blocked in, not getting to do actions, and general intimidation. Football is being played and beer drunk.
19:50: About seven police officers went to the back edge of the Stirling camp, checking out the barricades there. People went up to see what was going on and the police just turned around and left. A police officer further back took lots of photos.
19:45: 8 police officers entered a field right by the side of the campsite near to the river and cleared it of bits of wood and objects in a combing exercise. Campers fear that the field is being prepared as a new access point for police and vehicles.
18:40:Stirling campsite update.
19:00: Some international people have been released from Stirling, They have been told to leave the country immediately, and are leaving the camp now.
17:00: Police are preventing actions from the camp. There is consensus against resisting this today. The anarchists challenged the police to a football match; as the police failed to turn up the anarchists claim victory.
16:30: Police are refusing to let people leave the camp until the gathering at the front gate goes back into the camp. The police are activly moving around the football stadium in front of the camp.
16:05: No one is allowed to exit or enter into the camp because of illegal demonstrations. Police in the woods are surrounding the camp, even though there's no appetite for violence from protestors.
15.55: Peace Not War musicians and the Creative Forum are holding a children's party in Stirling camp. The atmosphere inside the camp is cool, but tense at the gates.
15:30: The solidarity demo has been surrounded and people are being penned in. The mood of the police seems hostile.
15:17: Police are preventing protesters leaving on a march for prisoner solidarity. No permission has been given for the march.
14.20: There will be a silent passive march leaving Stirling camp at 3pm and marching to the courthouse.
13:05: People are allowed in and out again; the cordon is down. Stop and searches are still in operation though.
13:00: Report from the morning's court appearances in Stirling.
12:49: There were 15-20 riot cops seen moving away from the camp. This was about an hour ago.
12:30: The council have announced they are coming to inspect the site in a few minutes.
09:05: People are being allowed in and out of the campsite in small groups (1-3 people), as long as they give the police their names and addresses. The police are saying, incorrectly, that people must give their name and address because a Section 60 order is in place [Legal briefing].
08:42: The police siege continues of the EcoVillage.
04:18: In the camp the atmosphere is cool with people awake. People are dancing and there is music playing.
04:08: The camp is waking up and the police are still outside the camp, with no reports of police in camp. It's light and the Indymedia centre keeps terminals open for people to report on the situation.
03:26: Statement from Central Scotland Police press office confirms that at 2:30 the police placed a "safety cordon" around the campsite but that they "have no intention on entering the site, and anyone wishing to leave peacefully may do so."
03:17: The police have said they have no intention of entering the camp but wish to prevent groups from leaving. There are reports of police with torches in the surrounding fields.
03:00: There are 26 van loads of police parked in a car park just around the corner from the eco-village campsite at Stirling.
02:30: Police surround Ecovillage. A line has formed across the main gate.
