Pics and a brief description of the protest camp

Horizone camp is a temporary autonomous site hosting demonstrators involved in actions against the G8 conference and for another world. Several hundred people converged from around the UK, Europe and the wider world. Months of planning and hard work organising and setting up the site by volunteers resulted in a succesful demonstration of alternative living based upon non-hierarchical participatory decision making, ecological consciousness and a sense of community and unity.

"What is eco about a field full of tents and cars?" you ask.

Well, here goes:

1. The people staying in the tents are eating vegan food, locally sourced where possible reducing food miles, animal cruelty and encouraging ethical farming methods.

2. Many of the vehicles are run on bio fuel, thus not impacting on the petro chemical crisis.

3. The toilets are composting toilets turning human waste into useful fertiliser.

4. Everybody on site is using the recycling system provided in order to reduce the human impact on the local environment.

5. Most importantly, the people staying here are camaigning on climate change while the G8 meets.

I have personally witnessed people from the camp returning from Morrison's with all sorts of purchases that are not "eco" as you try to suggest.

i loved the horizone eco village. I enjoyed for once being somewhere where i was free to go anywhere. I met some of the best people i have ever meet. The late night campfires, the workshops, discussions and meetings was a great experience in what people actually can do if they work together. Amazing project.. I heard that someone planned on staying in the village. Have anyone heard about that?

I'm not trying to be sarcstic or anything here but can you tell me why you said :

Can you explain to me the two "vehicles" that left the camp on Friday evening around 6pm which pulled out in front of me and onto the road heading towards Stirling city centre.

They then went through Stirling, still with me in my car behind them, through Bannockburn, going round the roundabout, turning onto the route to the Perth motorway and indicating into the petrol station there, I followed in behind them to fill my car up only to see the diesel pump in full action on these two "vehicles"?

Are you sure every vehicle there runs on bio fuel? Or has bio fuel suddenly become diesel?

Not been there but have been reading these indymedia/G8Alt/Stirling site postings.
SO, It is NOT a perfect world!? People at protest camps still put diesel in their vehicles and some choose to shop at Capitalist Morrisons.
SOME People, in my experience have more money, more resources, more experience than others. They might HAVE TO buy diesel or to shop at Morrisons because, perhaps the food on site is either not affordable or not their kind of thing. IT IS NOT A PERFECT WORLD.

So, we'll have to keep on trying wont we? RESIST, any which way you can.

The Seeds of Resistance continue to grow(But some more UNITY and cohesion WOULD be helpful).

I stayed there a week and didn't have to go to morrisons once, ate at the Lancaster barrio Dandelion Cafe, 1 in 12 barrio cafe/bar, @narchist Teapot, Veggies, Street Medic tent etc etc, all for donation of £1-£1.50 for more than I could eat. The vehicles that put in diesel couldn't put in bio-diesel at the garage could they? Because it is still illegal to use non-oil based diesel. The system's fault, not ours. Our barrio (big up lancaster) left petrol generators at home and brought up 2 solar panels and a windmill and a rack of 15V batteries and ran a sound-system and lighting and phone re-charging all week. We also had our own shower, kitchen, cafe and grey-water (waste water) systems. THAT is why it was an eco-village. Over.

despite the fact that the Stirling site was not completely environmentally sustainable, it was still an amazing space/experiment for what could be an ecovillage. Sure, we should be working for something better, but we have to start somewhere don't we. It isn't as if everyone is born into the world with the answers right off. Besides, ecovillages take time to evolve, and it isn't as if we had all the time in the world...so it seems so overly critical and judgemental to criticize people's efforts in their attempt to create an autonomous zone.

and yes, you can buy garden compost made from human shit at various mainstream places - check out the Thames Water website. Can't remember the name of it off the top of my head.

Funny you mentioned they were at the diesel pump, you can use regular diesel when biodiesel is not available.
