Just Who is Editing At INDYmedia?

pentos | 12.07.2005 18:32

INDYMEDIA - Independent soapbox......or not?

Short of coming round and photographing you myself, have you self-appointed arbiters of the right kind of free speech the guts to actually admit who you are, and what criteria you operate for blithely removing the posts of contributors?

Own up. Who are you?

I second this concern. I suspect at least one latent(or blatent) zionist if not most.

not happy either

David Icke I reckon and he's brought his forum nutters along with him. The place is starting to sound like Kilroy.

Before I hide this thread as one which falls outside of the editorial guidelines, I shall take the time to inform you that the moderators of indymedia are people from the regional collectives that make up ithe UK indymedia network. Those collectives occasionally come together for a national network meeting to come to agreements about proposals. At some stage a set of editorial guidelines has evolved and people from the collectives attempt to maintain the integrity of the site by enforcing those guidelines. The hidden files are can be view by anyone who wishes to read those things which have been considered to fall outside of the remit of the site. The decisions made are open to discussion on the features mailing list and those who hide something are accountable to the people on the list (an open list I might add). It is a thankless task but an essential one. Some people say too much is hidden and others say too little. You can make whatever stupid accusations you like about the editors being zionists or nazis or whatever, but if you post something which falls outside of the editorial guidelines then you can expect that it may not remain visiable on the front page newswire for very long.

I guess the moral of the story is you get the Indymedia you deserve. The US site is pretty sane. I guess that is because they don't have a bunch of loons hanging around there.

Put shit in, get shit out!

indymedia do a good job under difficult circumstances

12.07.2005 20:12

I regularly check this site for news - news that the mainstream ignores, but increasingly it is being taken over by people who think aliens rule the world.
There's a time and a place for conspiracy nuts - but not on here. It's good to talk about Iraq and Palestine but it seems at the expense of what's happening to the NHS, education, workers struggle, ID cards, government computer fuck ups, local direct actions, environmental struggles etc Sad to say that I'm getting more news from Private Eye and the Ecologist.
Not that I blame the Indymedia collective who do a thankless job under very difficult circumstances, tested to the limit at the moment by people who won't believe that religious fundamentalists will die for their cause taking as many innocent lives with them. (and of course Bush and Blair are in part to blame for invading Iraq and causing thousands of innocent civilians to be killed). But this is a newswire, not a conspiracy nut-wire, and if i was one of the indymedia moderators i'd ban a hell of a lot more posts (obviously because i'm a fascist).

Aliens rule the world?

13.07.2005 09:09

schnews bod says that indymedia is being taken over by people who think aliens rule the world. Sounds like a conspiracy theory to me. OK, everybody, lets's hear the chorus, 'show us some evidence!'.

Seriously, though, schnews bod, if you make allegations like that you need to back them up - please link some evidence which shows that this is the case - because personally I don't remember reading anything like that on here - certainly not recently - but it does look as if indymedia might be being taken over by people who believe it is being taken over by people who think aliens rule the world.

Though, it is more likely that you are just a piss taker who cannot construct an argument so resorts to amateurish sarcasm.
