AMBIENT PICNIC On July 31st

Gritty Kitty | 22.07.2005 10:59 | Culture | London | South Coast

The 2005 AMBIENT PICNIC, the ever-popular Music, Arts and Environment festival, will take place in Guildford on Sunday July 31st....

AMBIENT PICNIC ~ Arts, Music & Environmental Festival
Shalford Park, Guildford
SUNDAY the 31st of JULY
12 noon until 9pm.

Admission is by ticket, available in advance for £5 each from the Electric Theatre in Guildford.

The Ambient Picnic is a one day family event built on a “green” ethos that features music, arts and a healing field.

This year's picnic will feature five stages of live music linked with a 'Carbon Footpath'. After the success of 2004’s made-on-the-day “palm trees” and “jigsaw puzzle” (photographs of these are available: both from the day and after the fire…), the Carbon Footpath’s elements will be augmented by new pieces of art that are to be made on the day by anyone who is interested in joining in.

The event seeks to educate and entertain without preaching or patronising. The Carbon Footpath is a way of linking together art and environmental issues. The proposal is to illustrate elements of the actual ‘carbon footprint’ which everybody produces in their day-to-day activities with sculptures and other pieces of art.

Five stages featuring live music: the Live Stage, the Dance Tent, the Acoustic Stage, the Itsy Bitsy Ambient Café Stage and the Live And Direct Stage: confirmed performers listed below. Metro Riots and Nicky Blackmarket come via the Love Music Hate Racism (LMHR) campaign.
Art exhibits and poetry will also be made and performed on the day.
Two bars run by the Hog’s Back Brewery (only one in 2004), a dozen Caterers offering cuisines from around the world and a wide variety of Traders selling everything from jewellery to clothing and CDs to incense. Lots of campaign stalls. Plenty of activities for children including Children’s Circus.

The Healing Field is a quiet area set aside for peaceful contemplation, massage and the many practitioners of alternative therapies who all contribute to the Ambient Picnic’s positive inclusive vibe.

Power to run the music stages is provided by a number of innovative alternative generators using solar, wind, and alternative brown fuels.
The event is a "Not for Profit" affordable family day out organised by volunteers. The format of the event ensures that we do not just attract people interested in green issues. The event aims to target families and young adults interested in a low cost day of entertainment with quality food and drink.
The Organisers are keen to hear from new volunteers, including local art college students, wanting to get involved – please see www.ambientpicnic.co.uk
Equipment and materials being sought to replace everything lost in the fire last Autumn: teddy bears and stuffed toys, non-toxic children friendly paints, red or yellow or orange plastic bags, old plastic tubing and cabling shields, chicken wire, large (catering size) baked bean cans and unusual tins, coppiced poles, PA equipment, staging and Stella Artois cans (empty OK, full preferred!)

The natural year on year word of mouth growth of this one day event over recent years led to approximately 10000 people attending the festival throughout the day in 2004.
