2. Bristol’s 1st post-G8 summit meet was held on 19 July - and heard report backs/comments on events before/during the G8 summit in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Faslane, Stirling (the convergence camp-site) & Gleneagles. There was also a report from an individual involved in the BStW backed mini-buses that travelled to Scotland. For full reports on events during the G8 summit see http://indymedia.org.uk/en/actions/2005/g8/. Lastly there was a report on the Bristol anti-G8 demo on 6 July, attended by some 300 people, and believed to be one of the largest anti-G8 events in the UK outside Scotland. Nice one Bristol!
3. Bristol/southwest G8 defendants – Bristol Dissent is aware of 5 people locally facing charges/trials arising from non-violent direct actions on 6 July in Scotland, and of at least person already fined for a similar action (fine of £400). A number of other people from our area were also detained during the G8 protests, but not subsequently charged. This includes one legal observer volunteer held for upto 9 hours on 6 July before being released without charge. For G8 Legal Support info please see www.g8legalsupport.info and there is also a national prisoner/defendant contact email at july2005solidarity@yahoo.co.uk
Bristol Dissent is committed to supporting those facing charges, both practically, financially & emotionally. Around £120 has been raised so far, further donations are welcome – either cash at Bristol Dissent meetings, or by cheque (payable to ‘bristle’, with a note stating ‘defendant support’, to Bristle, Box 25, 82 Colston St, Bristol, BS1 5BB).
